Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum and just acquired a 85? L2250 with bf400G FEL.That needs some work

3 of the 4 hydraulic cylinders are leaking and thinking of rebuilding them myself,Unfortunately i cant seem to get the round wire retaining ring off the end cap.I have tried small screwdrivers, picks and snap ring pliers ground down to fit in the small opening.I can get clip to spin with a pick and hammer but that's it.

Whats the trick?

You will never get the wire ring out without tapping down the inner housing that your wiper seal is in. Until it is moved down about an 1/8", there is not enough room for it to come out.

Also, if you drill a small hole thru the barrel in line with the wire groove, you can use a pick to unseat the wire and pop it out with a small screwdriver or another pick. Some of the cylinders came drilled from the manufacturer but they are rare. I usually drill them rather than waste time trying to pry up on the ends.

Whitetiger nailed it. You have to drive the center in just a little to get the room it needs to get the wire out. It's a pia but it can be done.

Thank you very much!I was able to tap down the center housing and drill a 3/32 hole and the spring popped right out with a pick

I have 1 of the boom and bucket cylinder disassembled and now looking for the correct seals and really not wanting to pay $109 x4 for the rebuild kits.

I might not replace the wipers seals and just replace the rod seal and o-ring.

What is the correct type of rod seal?U-cup?What material?

the measurements are

Bucket rod seals 30 id x40 od x 6 and has GNY 30 stamp on the seal

Boom rod seals 25 id x35 od x5 and Has GNY 25-35 stamped on the seal

o-rings on the boom and bucket are the same 41 id x 46 od x3.

Thanks for the help guy!

Go to your local hydraulic repair shop. They'll have all the parts you need or can get them in a hurry. And at a much discounted price than you mentioned.

You take the ram in there all cleaned up and they'll probably install all the seals in short order also.

Ditto what D2Cat said. :D

The seals don't cost a lot, it's the kubota name on the outside of the bag that's cost a lot!

Exactly. I deal with a lot of hydraulic cylinders, every piece of equipment I run, has cylinders and I've never taken one apart and don't want to. I take them into the local Parker hydraulic shop and let them do the rebuild. Lots less grief. Some I just replace, most of the standard ones are cheap anyway.
