Help with a L245dt 3 point

I recently bought a used 245DT with a loader and a bunch of stuff. It has been somewhat of a nightmare. My local Kubota dealer gets me all of the many parts I need, but never actually has any answers to problems. Currently my 3 point will NOT stay up under load! Now if I close the valve under the seat it stays put. But they have no idea where to go with this. I have changed oil 3 times, replaced the screen now with a new one and I am at a loss. If anyone has any ideas please help. This hobby tractor is driving me crazy.

Sounds like the valve is by passing fluid or possibly the main cylinder seal.

When I got my tractor, it was doing the same thing. Again, on mine, there is a cover under the seat, slightly ahead of the three point arms. The piston was under that cover, and had a bad o-ring & backing ring, and there were a couple of o-rings to seal the cover. Sounds like you need a service manual for your tractor.

I have one of those aftermarket service manuals. They cover several tractors. Going to call kubota in the am and see if they have one just for my tractor. I think I know what you are talking about, it is the main cylinder, my question is wouldn't it still leak down when the slow fast valve is closed as well? When I close it the arms stay where I set them, That was what had me confused.

Can you still control how fast the 3 point goes up and down?
Does it go up fast and down slow?
I'm leaning toward it being the control valve over the lift cylinder.
I would think if it was the seals on the cylinder it would still fall when the speed adjustment was turned.

That is the strange thing. I can control how fast it drops, and it always comes up fast, but once i set it where I want it, it just keeps going down. Hence the reason I have closed the speed control valve to prevent it from going down at all.

Do you have a FEL on it?
Is the steering good?

If both of those are good then it's the control valve for the 3 point lift.

Yes it has an FEL on it and No power steering!!!!! The fel works but squeals when loaded heavy. But works fine other than that. I think it only has an 800 pound lifting capacity. But the 3 point just seems to like to act strange. I did notice today that the fluid was getting pretty hot as well. That was something new too. The fel valve felt hot? Always something with this baby!

Un-ordinarily hot fluid can also be a sign of a possible valve problem. It's an open system and if there is a restriction in that system it will run hot.

If the restriction is in the valve before the bypass valve then yes it could still cause it to get hot.

I have also noticed a new issue today. It seems the lift handle for the 3 point is loose as a goose. It will just fall down from its own weight. This may be the real issue here as well. I have been looking at this stupid I&T Manual I have and there doesn't seem to be anyway to tighten this handle. I called Kubota today and they ordered me the correct manual for this old girl. I think if I can find a way to put some friction on that handle the issue may be resolved. Now I ran it today with the 3 point speed valve open and the oil did not get hot! Who knows for sure. Now to see how to tighten this lever.

part # 3426-36880 is what you need to stop the handle from just falling - you need 2 of them if they are worn out if not tightening nuts #32 and #33 will increase friction..

then click 053000 OIL PRESSURE 2 for the lever that controls the 3pt hitch

There is either a self locking nut or a pair of nuts that you can tighten on the lever pivot point. It takes a 13mm wrench. Don't overtighten it. Its easier to get at if you remove the seat and the seat bracket.

Now I saw these but I was not sure what they did. I will try to tighten them gently in the morning. Thank you for this link. It will help till my book arrives next week sometime at my Kubota dealer.

Again, thanks to all of you that have come to my rescue. This is my first Kubota and she is a fun little critter. Just a hobby. She doesn't really have to do much around here. Just wanted a toy to play with. But I should have bought one that had not been sitting I guess. But with all of your help on this forum we will get her back in shape.

Well, I couldn't wait I went and tightened the nuts just a tiny bit. Gee, Now I have a working 3 point again. I have to thank everyone so very much for helping me solve this silly issue. It was driving me crazy.So, for now I will do some more cleaning and getting her ready to paint. Again, thanks so much everyone for al of the great help.
