How much oil is shown on the dipstick now?

Where is the smoke coming from?

Probably put way too much oil in. Both of those are fill ports to the same oil pan. Pull and read the dipstick. Will probably need to drain some out.

It's probably all the wood chips that are sitting on top of the engine.
( and now they have oil dripped onto them)

Did you just empty a random amount of oil in your engine and hope for the best?

Agree, you need to remove ALL the chips PDQ. When they get lit on fire, you can say goodbye to your machine. 'when' NOT 'if'.......
The 'classic' is a mouse house in the air blower of a riding mower...taken many a rider to a premature death.

All the above and in the picture in the lower right corner is that oil covered debris?

Also if it is close to service time drain oil and filter and refill per service information. Otherwise drain just the oil into a clean bucket, as you need the proper oil level within engine. Too low of oil will destroy engine, too much and the crankshaft will hit the oil and make a oily mist which will get drawn into engine to burn(via PCV system)and you get a runaway diesel engine(might over-rev engine which will destroy it). Then spray engine with a degreaser or simply green and hose it off, if using pressure washer be careful and don't blast the engine with the wand, stay back a few feet.

So there was basically NO oil left in machine according to the dipstick
i added mostly into the top oil cap and now there is just enough to hit the low level of the OK on the dipstick.
it wasn't on more than 2 mins and started smoking...i couldn't quite tell from where.
but it wasn't the woodchips...yes i blew them off right after.

The dipstick does not touch the bottom of the oil pan, it can be 1 or 3 quarts low and may or may not touch the dipstick. That is why I want you to drain the oil and change the filter. Now with a new filter and 3 quarts installed in the engine, start the engine and let it run for one minute. Turn engine off, wait 5 minutes, pull dipstick out, wipe it clean, and reinstall. Now check the oil level on stick and scribe that level with a screwdriver. Does it show on the dipstick? I believe that engine holds 4.33 quarts of oil, so add oil until it shows fill on the dipstick. Does it take 4.33 quarts? Have you washed the engine or seeing oil on the outside of the engine? Does the smoke still exist? Is it coming out of the muffler or off of the engine? Are all the other fluid levels correct? I once changed an engine due to a bad brake master cylinder(Customer towed car in with missing battery, said he already diagnosed it and needs an engine(customer already had engine in bed of pickup), And he also said the brakes don't work, but, he would fix that. I switched engines and used booster pack to start and run the engine(could not drive due to no brakes. Customer came to pick it and commented it still smells like rotten eggs(customer already cut the catalytic convertor off and installed a "test pipe" in the exhaust. Then I got the rest of the story. He had been putting about a quart of brake fluid in it daily, but could not locate a leak, the master cylinder was leaking brake fluid into the brake booster and the engine was burning it after the brake booster got full. The customer and his buddy decided it had a blown head gasket and needed a different engine. Brakes just had air in the lines and needed to be bled. If I remember right the old truck brake booster held about 7 quarts of brake fluid. :ROFLMAO: After it was full the engine was slowly burning the brake fluid and I will never forget that smell.

Are you using diesel motor oil? What oil are you using? Any more history to this? Are you sure it has diesel fuel in it? Wondering if it is a diesel knock(burning oil as fuel), lower end knock, or another unknown knock? Does sound like it is running on all the cylinders. Is it Kubota super UDT fluid that you are putting into the engine(not trying to be an a55 but don't know your skill level)?

It sounds fine until a min or so in. Then knock (don't know the differences, no engine skills ;) ) then smoke out of the muffler! Lots and lots!!!

When did you last check or change the engine oil?
Remove your radiator cap and check the coolant level.

How long did the engine run (presumably) with no oil?

1) Do you have the ability to check the compression (could be damaged pistons).
2) Are their bubbles in the radiator when running? is the radiator full or is there a loss of coolant? (signs of leaking head gasket).
3) What color is the smoke?

Since you are low on mechanical skills, I hope that you are flush with cash, because this is going to need a professional to figure out what is wrong. Engines don't suddenly run out of oil unless there is a physical injury to the engine, such as hitting a rock and damaging the oil pan. Most likely you haven't been taking very good care of the machine by checking the dipstick every time that you use it, or even once a week. There is a good chance that your engine is damaged and will need some expensive repairs or replacement. Seen this happen with cars, where no maintenance is done until it stops running when it becomes too late. Maintenance isn't an expense, it is a preventative to a major expense. You might be thinking that I am being cruel, but I am not going to sugarcoat this bitter pill called poor maintenance.

Did you fill the fuel tank with oil?
Your options are very very limited.
Like full rebuild limited!
