When fuel is dumped into the filter you are risking getting contaminants into the injection pump, since that fuel hasn't gone through the filter.
Never been an issue with me since I bout my first M in 2004. It's SOP to fill the fuel filters on a Class 8 diesel with fuel prior to starting it, I do the same.

When and if it pukes I'll be sure to tell everyone. Up to now, not an issue.

A friend who owns a very large diesel fuel repair center always said that changing a fuel filter and pouring it full of fuel was one thing that had greatly expanded his business. I always wondered why if its a good practice to prefill the filter, why not just bypass it altogether.
Just think of the money one would save by not buying fuel filters!:D

Whitetiger, "Learn from the mistakes of others---you can never live long enough to make them all yourself."

Some refuse to listen to someone who's been there, some are slow learners, some just stubborn. Being careless with fuel will eventually catch up to them.

When and if I have an issue, I'll let everyone know.... I do filter the fuel through one of those membrane filters when I add it to the filter. Been doing that for years now. The shop I worked at always did it too. In fact, on the newer Tier 4 final Cummins engines you have to fill the primary and secondary filter or you'll never get the engine started.

Besides on a Kubota, the path of the fuel in the filter is down through the center hole and up and out through the radial holes so filling the filters through the center hole is filtering the fuel.

Flip, many times the issues brought up on this forum are from individuals who have one tractor they use for every chore they can think of. They my not have years of experience with tractor operations, maintenance or how to safely use them, at least in the beginning.

Therefore information given ideally is orientated towards them. They don't farm for a livelihood, don't have large volumes of diesel storage, don't treat 300 gallons or more of fuel for their use.

If you would consider the reader audience you might be less critical of smaller tractors and less braggadocios of your larger tractors, equipment, procedures. Help the less experienced in a kind manner, and less focused on your way always.

Contribute your knowledge. Just don't be so domineering on every subject. Thanks. len

I have serviced many of them, always install the filters dry, prime and bled the system. They always start immediately.

You can do as you please to your equipment, but you should refrain from telling others to do things that could cause them a catastrophic failure.
