Hi,
I removed the oil pan on a d1105 to weld up a crack in it and discovered a piece of metal in there that I wanted a second set of eyes on. It was directly under the cylinder closest to the flywheel. And from the markings on the oil pan it has been sitting in there rattling around in that spot for a while. It looks almost exactly like the end of an oil dip stick, and the dipstick is on that end of the motor. Rotating the motor over by hand I can see that it would be possible to get the dipstick in the way of the connecting rods/crank if you pushed it around hard while the motor was running.
Just wanted to run it by some folks with experience on these motors before I went ahead and buttoned it back up. Engine seems to run good. Good compression and very clean oil. Nothing crazy going on when I look up into the block with a mirror. But trying to decide if I need to go further.
