While filling using one of these lovely spill proof fuel cans the nozzle broke and fell down into the tank. I cannot see it in the as it is half full. Short of removing the tank and getting it out does anyone have any other suggestions? Do you think it’d be safe to run the tank down to a level that I would be able to see it and grab onto it with a grabber claw?

I wouldn't worry about it if you can't fish it out. Back in '02 I bought a B7500 and not long after that the fuel cap seal(?) ended up in the tank. It was a rubbery cup-shaped gasket that sealed between the tank and cap. I tried using one of those three-clawed cable grabbers without success. It never caused any problems the following 10 years I owned it.
My assumption is that anything made for handling fuel won't dissolve, and with pieces that large, they won't be able to block the tappings for the fuel lines.

If you can get to where you can find the nozzle, I see nothing wrong with trying to grab it with a CLEAN tool. Since there is always the chance the nozzle distributed other broken pieces into the tank and/or other debris the best thing would be to pull the tank. What machine is is on?
If I could not fish it out easily, I would simply leave it in there. It will do no harm.
To prevent this in the future... remember to NEVER put the weight of the fuel-can on the end of the spout.
QUESTION: My 20+ year old Kubota has a screen on the fuel-filler neck. It is impossible for anything larger than a grain of sand to get into the tank. Is your screen missing?

I had exactly the same thing happen to me when filling my B3200. It's been in there almost 3 years and no issues so far. After that I switched to setting the fuel can on a towel on the hood and siphoning the fuel in.
Bruce, the new machines do not have that strainer!!
He needs a plastic magnet, but lacking such a thing I'd just keep on tractoring....

I also recommend you buy a couple of extra long forceps, one straight and one angled. If you are lucky, the plastic fitting floats In the tank.
