I'm trying to put together my b36 tiller that came with the b5100e that I recently bought. I received the link and diagram from this site, but it doesn't help with my problem. I replaced a missing sprocket, and roller chain but there is some kind of backlash device, a paddle with spring and I have no idea how or where it goes. Any help would greatly and sincerely appreciated. thanks, HS

It is probably some type of chain tensioner.

See this link for a example of one that has a gear at the end. They often have a "plastic" paddle that pushes the chain tight. It normally pushes the chain toward the pulleys about half way between the pulleys. That creates more contact between the chain and sprockets.

The Kubota website has an illustrated parts list that shows something called a chain tightener so I suggest you look at it to see how it goes together. It is not real clear but if you print it to PDF it is usually a better view.

If you need help finding it let us know.

There should also be a bolt with a spacer......? Do you have that?

The tensioner will mount on the trailing side of the chain, note the direction the chain travels under load, that side will stay taunt, the tensioner will be on the opposite side. There should be a bolt hole or as threaded hole near the middle between the two sprockets, if it is tear shaped the long end should point with the direction the chain travels.

Here are some pictures from my B-36. I hope it helps. It sure is a nice tiller. I use mine to till between my rows of potatoes in the summer. I use a wider tiller to prep the garden in the spring.

Thankyou guys for all of your help. I almost can't believe how kind and generous y'all are. Kabotaman, your photo's were exactly what I needed. Parts have been ordered! Thanks again, HS
