This will be a bit long, please standby.

I really need some advice/help. I bought a 98 B2400 (1100hrs) off a guy on ebay and had it shipped to my local Bota dealer.
The dealer said that this was wrong.

1 Gearbox on belly mower dry and trashed. 1000 to rebuild.
2 Front wheels hard to turn and it needs new grease.
Grease turns out to be 80/90hypoid oil. Which sounds wierd to me. To me grease is grease and oil is oil.
3 Needs new hubs. Now this I can see somewhat as the top of the rear tires are bowed if looking from the back. The mechanic stuck a key in between the axle and the hub. There is a definite gap. The previous owner said just to install the shim kit.
4 Needs a new starter. But its starts and I have seen on the net about the switch/safety ckt contacts being the culprit.
5 One of the loader Q/D fittings is leaking. This I can see and the previous owner mentioned. That should be ~10part.

1 Anyone ever rebuild the mower gearbox or replace a gearbox?
2 I looked on the net and seems the B series have some issues with seals on the front end. Also what is better udt or 80/90 for the front end.?
3 How long should hubs last? I have priced them already and it looks about 350 for parts. They don't look too hard to replace. Or should I just shim it?
Also mention about new improved hubs?
4 Starter is about 250 but I will definitely take it apart and check the wiring before I replace it.
5 The q/d fitting looks lvery easy, but there was mention about having to convert it over to the new style.?
I am very suspicious of the dealer and somewhat of the previous owner.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement.
I appreciate any advice.
Mike

Vic.... a very good two cents worth indeed!:D

Kubotas' are good machines and like all pieces of fine equipment requires TLC if they are to be kept in tip top shape.

Sometimes neglected machines are fortunate to find new homes and in the right hands,,, new life.;)

Again.... great advice Vic! Butch

Hey I tried to post twice and it keeps getting knocked off?

1 Starter,,,no issue. Researched it and this is a known issue with this tractor.
I ordered the JD relay kit. I will still check the starter and the ckt.

2 Going to replace the hydro fittings. There are "new" updated part # for these can't find them but the dealer can. Definitely not a 10$ part though.

3 Fill front end with 80-90 and see if the seals start leaking.???
Anybody know if there is a problem with using GL5 gear oil? Something about
"yellow-metal" friendly?

4 Replace hubs and shims, previous owner already had the shim kit parts under the seat.

5 Belly mower,,,well between the drive shaft and the gearbox $$$$$$$$$$$
To be honest never even wanted the belly mower and I am not sure I want to spend the time on it. Probaly put it toward a 48" RFM. Might see if the dealer gives me a credit towards a box scraper or a snow blade.

In the mean time I ordered all the filters and fluids and yes manuals.

Thanks for all the advice.

Mike

Quick?
I got a handle on the mower gearbox repair. Another member has done this and gave me all the info I need. However the Kubota shop says the PTO drive shaft from the "bottom" drive to the mower is worn out. Also it is the older design without a Zerk fitting.

???
Is there an aftermarket drive like the ones for the rear PTO?

The OEM is ~500$,,ouch.

Thanks
Mike
