I recently upgraded from a bx2230 to a b3200 and absolutely love it! I've been considering an implement for my 3pt hitch to serve as a counterweight also. Perhaps a rake for my stone driveway, but i don't know if that's heavy enough. Thanks!

If you want the best counter weight on the rear, consider liquid filling the tires for ballast. That helps a great deal and adds a ton more traction to the tractor itself. A rake isnt really all that heavy. I had some one give me a rake. I never used it even once and I eventually scrapped it. A grading box or what most call a box blade will be more useful and a bit beefier.

Hello, and welcome.

Your best bet is to buy a weight box. That is, after getting your tires weighted. You don't really say why you need the counterweight, do you have a FEL on your new tractor?

Welcome to OTT - I second what Eric said - the filling of the tires and possibly adding a box blade for counter weight - I find that I use it as much as the fel, the weight is an added bonus.

I would definately have to agree with the others. A box scrape would be the best choice as long as it's a good one. I had a off brand box on my B 7100 and it wasn't heavy enough to even drive the rippers in the ground. I didn't want to make that mistake twice so I bought a Bushhog brand to go on my L 3000. It weighs almost 400 lbs not only serves as a great counter weight it works great for its intended purpose as well. I have a shooting table I built that weighs almost 1,000 lbs. I move it from time to time and the box scrape keeps the rear tires planted fairly well. I load and move 4x5 rolls of hay as well and it handles that fine as well. I would go with the box if it was me.

I'm in the trucking business and have a 4 acre property. I move alot of empty pallets (11 to a stack) with clamp on forks. I also have a 500 yrd stone driveway to maintain so the box grader seems the best choice. I shy from filling the tires because I do alot of work for family and friends and want to be able to shed the weight as to not turf up their yards. haha! Thanks again

A solution might be to build a rear weight. The 3 point is often rated at 1000 lbs, so a 400 or so lb weight would be good.
I'll let you do the math, but the method is simple.

Large plastic garbage can, get ready rod, re-bar or whatever cut to length & ends ground smooth for the lift arms, pass rod through garbage can at correct angle. Another piece bent & joined to connect to the top link. Check for proper fit & operation, fill with appropriate amount of cement gravel & water. Ready mix is nice and convenient if you don't mind the extra cost. Once the cement has cured the garbage can may be discarded.

Weighted tires is also not a real option for me. I should have had this box built for the landscaping I did this week, but there has been too much else happening here.

My L35 FEL will pick up more than the rear will hold down without the backhoe on, even with the rear tires filled with water/antifreeze. So I built a 3 pt. counterweight using a 55 gal. drum and filled it with concrete. I use a quick hitch on the 3 pt. and it hooks up the counterweight pretty quick. I figure the counterweight weighs in at about 900 lbs. It makes a huge difference when it is on and I'm using the FEL. Let us know which direction you take.

I was a little off on the weight of my box scrape I posted before. I have a Bushhog BX 650 (5 1/2') and the real weight is 511 lbs. I have been very pleased with it for scraping and as a counter weight as well.
