Hello everyone, I have hooked up my cab heater on my B2601, from the info. in this forum I used the small bypass hose at the thermostat. I ran my lines through the heater and back. My question is, first off it works good the heater is quite warm, but my question is I'm thinking that the heater and hoses where hot, is that normal? The temperature gauge is indicating normal. I included pic of hose I cut into. I also tried putting a bypass valve in, but the valve leaked like a sieve (Amazon) so I don't have a valve in yet but the weather is getting colder so will put one in before spring. Does anyone know where to by a good bypass valve. Thks to all

The nominal operating temperature of an internal combustion engine is 70C-90C. It will get hotter under load. It is normal for the hoses to be hot.

Yes, the hoses will be hot.

The bypass valve is a good idea for warm weather operations. I just made a Tee from soldered copper pipe and a standard 1/4 turn valve from the plumbing aisle at Home Depot. It's a seasonal change - for winter, turn the valve 1/4 turn to the closed position so no coolant can flow through it, and turn ON the valve in the cabin heater. For summer, turn off the cabin heater valve and turn ON the bypass valve so all coolant runs through the bypass rather than going up to the heater.

When in use the feed hose will be hot, the return from the heater core should be cooler. Easy to read with an IR 'gun', though you should be able to tell with your hands on the hoses as well.
