On a KUbota D722E 3 cyl diesel engine, I experience chronic overheating after about 10 minutes operation. It used to take longer, but cycle times so short now that I took it out of service. Everything external has been eliminated - new radiator, new water pump, boosted fan to high speed all the time. So now I've pulled the head expecting to find the cause - a gap in the head gasket, or a cut away on the head or the block permitting the combustion to get into the water jacket.

No telltale signs that I can determine. Gasket looks good, mating surfaces look good. What next? Yes there is some oil in the coolant, and I have severe coolant consumption. Will have to top off the radiator after 30 minute short mowing sessions before this got too bad to run.

Is it actually overheating as in the engine coolant temperature getting above the normal temperature or is it more that there is excessive pressure in the cooling system.

Many times what is percieved as overheating is actually the cooling system being pressurized caused by compression from one of the cylinders due to a crack in the block or head or a leaking head gasket.

Is there any coolant coming from the exhaust when running or is the coolant loss thru the overflow tube on the radiator.

You indicate there is some oil in the coolant but is there any coolant in the oil.

If the coolant system is being over pressurized from compression and you have engine coolant coming from exhaust then it is possible the crack is in the head or that there is a problem with the head gasket/cylinder head mating surface being warped or eroded.

If there is coolant in the oil and the overheating is caused solely by the loss of engine coolant then I would look for the leak/crack to be in the block.

Are there any freeze out plugs on Kubota Diesels, Is it possible the overheating is being caused by coolant loss externally
