Hay spike question

I've got a B2320 with a front end loader. I'm looking at using round bales this year, and the dealer told me with this tractor to get 4x4 bales and use a 3 pt spike, not a loader mount. Anyone have any experience with this?

If you carry both front and rear at the same time, you might be ok. If you carry with just the front end loader you will need ballast. A 5' round bale weighs in the neighborhood of 1200 lbs.

I should have given more information. The dealer told me to get 4x4 bales. The supplier also sells 4x5 bales which he says weigh about 800 lbs, so the 4x4 bales should be considerably lighter. How light, I don't know, as I tried another forum, and type of hay (mixed horse quality) moisture content and type of baler enter into it. But, they must weigh less than his 4x5's.

550-600+ range. As has been stated, and obvious I hope with these weights, use appropriate counterbalancing as required when using our small sized machines. It takes a lot less time to get into trouble.
