I have a L3010 HST and cannot get it out of 4wd. I am pressing down on the handle with as much pressure as I want to put on it with-out breaking anything. Are they usually that hard? This tractor has probably been in 4wd for years. Any ideas thanks

Check your linkage(s) all the way back to where it enters...something...the transmission housing. Everything you can get should be well lubed. Try Kroil and let it soak a while.

May help to work the engagement lever up and down while rocking the tractor back and forth to find the sweet spot. With a loader might try lifting the front end off the ground, working the lever, jiggling the tractor forward and backward gently.

Seems like there's been a post on here about a U-joint in the front driveline being bound-up. May or may not apply to your case.

Please post back your experiences so we may all learn.

Mopar2ya,

Try turning your steering left or right then pushing the lever down. If that doesn't release it, drive forward a few feet and do it again.

Get your front tires off the ground to eliminate friction if you have tire sizes that cause a bind. Manually roll the tires forward and backward. After inspection of linkage, and lubed as others mentioned try moving the lever again to get it to shift.

I had to use a little leverage to the my L305DT out of 4 wheel drive after it had set for 5 years. It's hard to tell someone how much to push or pull a lever to get it to free up!! It all depends on your willingness to solve the problem and your aversion to risk (if you cause more grief).

I've had mine fight me a couple times.
I drive it onto a gentle slope and clutch in until it starts to roll backwars then jink the steering a little left and right while holding down on the lever. It will usually drop with no effort at some point when there is no tension on the drive system.

Turn your wheel completely to the left or right, and when its completely over it will disengage from 4WD very easy.

I just lower the bucket and raise the front off the ground which takes all the weight and pressure off, should slide right out and back into 2WD.

Mine is the same way. I have no hard surface, and neither did the guy I got it from. It hasn't been out of 4WD in many years. Shifter was pretty much rusted in place down at the bottom. Once cleaned up and lubed it worked fine, but I just don't use 2WD.
