Has anyone paid for a tractor with a credit card?

Simple... Finance the unit through Kubota, then pay it off with the CC, there should not be any fee for early payment. ;)

Legally ALL merchants MUST accept whatever you want to put on the credit card up to the 'available limit'. End of discussion.
They may have to accept it. I'm pretty sure they're allowed to on-charge the merchant fee to you though if they wish.

Pretty common to see places that add a fee for using a CC over X amount purchased. Usually this is in places other than retail stores

It is ILLEGAL to charge a fee for CC processing or use !! THAt is clearly written into the contract the merchant signed with the CC company.
If the company posts a sign saying they do charge, snap a picture of it, send details to CC company. Odds are real good that the CC company will terminate the contract and the business no longer can accept that card.

I think that you better google this. Doing so, you will it is legal for merchants to add enough to cover the the processing fees as long as certain conditions are met. So to keep saying it is prohibited is true.

Basic contract law in 1975 is only 45 years ago. I am sure that nothing has changed in that law for that amount of time, at least in USA.;)

To answer the OPs question, I used a credit card to partially pay for my tractor, car, and truck. In each case the merchant limited how much I could put on the charge card. The Kubota dealer allowed $1000.00 The car dealer allowed $5000.00 and the truck dealer allowed $3000.00

Well Canadian businesses cannot post 'discounts for cash instead of using credit cards' type signage. That's in their contracts. You could have different contracts south of the boarder. You'd have to read every CC merchant contract to see who actually allows it.
The merchant cannot however limit you to what you can pay on a credit card, that clearly violates the contract. They'll push you, convince you it's 'policy' but a simple 1-800 call will confirm you can use up to your current 'available limit' for any putchase.

When we took cards it was against our agreement to charge more for using cards but we could offer discount for cash (gas stations often do) but we generally kept to single prices. However on large purchases where most every customer asks for a discount, since we lowered our margin we made it clear it would be check or cash. I would think that most tractor, auto dealers etc., operate similarly. This does beg the question in the current climate of high pricing because of shortages. If they are charging full list price (no discount) can they refuse payment by card?

On my most recent tractor purchase, I wasn't planning on trying to use a credit card. Kubota had another of their 0% financing things going, which sounded ok, but when the dealer came up with my final pricing, I asked whether paying cash would drop that number, and he took off another $700 for cash purchase. That is better than any "points" or cash-back from using the card. I don't think he would have taken the card anyway, but $700 is a good chunk of money. That is also better than 0% financing, unless one does not have that much cash on hand.

Not in Canada, if using VISA or Mastercard ( only 2 cards I have ). You can put entire opurchse ,up to your 'credit limit' minus any existing purchases or pending purchases.
If they say 'no', call the CC 1-800 number, the CCcompany wil set the vendor straight.
Maybe different rules south of the 49th,but I doubt it. easy enough to go online to US version of the CC company to see the rules.

I was talking about this very thing with my dealer the other day. He told me that one of their millionaire/billionaire type customers bought an M5 Kubota entirely on a credit card. He informed the customer that the credit card fees were going to be something like $5,000 but the customer didn't bat an eyelid at that and the tractor was sold.

My local dealer was #6 in the nation for Kubota sales last year, and that's among single dealership franchises. He and his wife won a trip to Mexico I think with a bunch of other dealership managers/owners.

Why not buy the tractor with the 0% from Kubota and then make the payments on the credit card? You just get your money back a little at a time.
My Kubota dealership only accepted a chequing account as a monthly payment source when I bought on their 0%. So I couldn't get the 1% cashback that way as you suggest.

My mind boggles sometimes. Surely a business can take whatever payment they like - if they want payment in bitcoin that's their right? How can there be a law that says you have to take credit cards? Seems bizarre.

It may be that a business that advertises that they accept credit cards, must do so.

A business makes a deal to use/accept the CCards of a CC company. they sign a contract , that lays out the terms of that deal. LOTS of stuff, like charge rates, signage, etc., all of which can be seen online at the CC company website. Similar to the 'Terms of Use' and 'End User Agreements' for say, an 'ap' or Windows.
Not all businesses 'sigh up' for all credit cards, tranny shop down the road ONLY accepts cash or cheque ! Most though will take VISA and MC. Not many take AMerican Express or Diners Club up here...
There is no law, that I know , that says a business HAS to take creditr cards (tranny shop is my proof..) However it's been 'good business' for companies to accept 'plastic'. In most cases it's safer than taking a cheque.

Right, so basically it's credit card company terms and conditions that if you want to offer their card at all, you have to offer it for everything, you can't pick and choose. Which isn't law, but if you sign that contract, then sure, you have to abide by it.
