I heard today a China Freight might be coming soon to North Conway New Hampshire.
Which would be close to me.
I did get a 3 ton floor jack there a few weeks ago. On sale of course. Then a couple coupons knocks the price down more.
I hope the one in New Hampshire comes about.

I totally agree. 24 years as a tech has me completely over these tool companies and their prices. Although I do point our younger techs/apprentices towards the harbor freight direction rather than most tool trucks, you definitely gotta be careful and do alittle research.

I do however like these manufactures stepping it up a bit to provide these other options. And most are doing a decent job at it.

I put the Pittsburg prof/Icon series ratchets through the pepsi challenge a couple of years ago. I could generally get a year or so out of them before problems.

But the bottom line is that oh so precious money.

I have been reemed deeper than you could imagine over the years lol. Most my own fault though

I have some HF stuff. Good example is their tool boxes. Got all I needed for a small fraction of a professional name brand. I'm just a homeowner mechanic. Suit my needs after 10 years or so. Seem okay - - not great but much happier with the price point.

Also got a rotary hammer/ drill for a one-time need. Better for $70 (with bits) than $300+ and I've gotten 4-5 other uses out of it since.

I have some friends that are full time techs. Been in their shop when "the truck" comes. What they pay for tools is hard to fathom. Granted, supposedly top quality and it's how they make their living......can't disagree with their choices there.

A HF recently opened near me in my normal direction of travel. Go by several times/week.

Was an hour each way before.

I've been in a few times for little stuff. Kind of nice to have nearby.

Almost all of my Snap-On tools I purchased second-hand when others were getting out in the late 1950's and I couldn't afford new ones. They have served me well for the past 65 years and when one breaks, it is replaced with a new one for free. Some of the tools are so old that they should be eligible for Social Security. Almost all of the newer tools were bought at a deep discount at swap meets.

One of my tasks when I was working was to set, align, level, and grout (with epoxy) granite blocks in the 4000-6000 lb range.
I had a couple of no name 3ft pry bars that I would use to "walk" the blocks into position.
After doing several, I broke the tip off one of them, so I reground it, but decided I should have a backup just in case.
I had a friend who was a Snap-on dealer at the time, and he offered me a used one for $195!
I passed, and went to HF, bought a set of four for $20.
Never broke another, and I'm still using them for other tasks.

I've got my grandfather's set of 1/2" S-K sockets. Guessing 1940's (?).

They were always lifetime replacement, but don't think they're even in business anymore.

Never broken any but have thrown a couple sockets away as they were worn out 12-point sockets. The racket has been perfect over all these years.

Lifetime warranty is an important factor in certain circumstances but not infallible.

My 20" Johnson bar broke....old, real old, forget the name but 'lifetime warranty'. Googled the name.. they got bought out by someone who then got bought out by Proto,so I asked if they would cover the warranty ( hay, I got nothing to lose ! ) Girl replies with links to 2 of theirs, I say '24" is closest, 3 days later DHL shows up with the PROTO bar !!
Never hurts to ask !!!
