I have a 2001 L3410 GST, bought it used and never had the owners manual. I accidentally went from forward to reverse the other day without using the clutch and it shifted smooth as silk. I was under the assumption you had to push the clutch in to go from forward to reverse, but it looks like you don't have to do that on the newer GST transmissions, are all the GST's that way? That would sure make life allot easier!

I was thinking of buying an L5040 GST later to replace this one, that pretty much made up my mind after reading that it doesn't require the clutch for any gear changes.:D

I have a 2008 L3240 with GST Transmission. I bought this tractor used and still haven't been able to get an owner's manual. I was told it does shift from forward to reverse without the clutch. I've been doing that with no problems. I mainly use the clutch to stop the tractor and also when I go into 4WD. Like I say I don't have a manual so I'm no expert.

I don't think the GST has a clutch, rather then just the 2 break pedals tied together. And yes you both are right the GST is a clutchless forward/reverse transmission. Its designed that way. Glide Shift Tranmission.

It has a hydraulic clutch from what I understand, so does that mean it doesn't have a traditional fiber clutch and pressure plate setup? Supposedly it operates the clutch automatically on the gear shifts, and senses speed to determine how fast or slow to release the clutch.

Well like I said, I don't have a manual. But my question is what is the pedal on the left side if it is not a clutch? I have two brake pedals on the right side.

It's a clutch but not a standard dry disc type like a standard shift tractor has. It's more like a clutch pack in a automatic transmission.

Kubota GST transmissions DO have a standard clutch on the flywheel like all other L series tractors. They also have a hydraulic clutch which disconnects the drive to allow gears to be shifted without the operator declutching. When you manually clutch the tractor you are using a conventional, dry type clutch.

Thanks for that info Eserv. I didn't know that. I wondered how just a clutch pack could hold up to the abuse a tractor get put thru. Makes more since now.

Yes the GST has a "dry type single stage" (<~~~~right out of the manual) clutch just like every other kubota of its power range. It is the pedal on the left. It gets its no clutch shifting from a seperate "clutch pack" that the gear shift lever activates. You do not need to clutch to shift gears or going from foward to reverse. Even under a load. I know. I just traded in my L4200 to a L5040 both with GST. In 13 years of use with a loader and using a tiller, disk,PHD,bushhog, and anything else I could hang on it I NEVER once used the clutch pedal. I'm disabled and can't depress the cluth pedal. I've had my L5040 for a week. You can use the clutch if you want but you don't have to. I would guess that it MIGHT save some wear and tear on the automatic clutch pack but that would just be a guess on my part. In 13 years of tough "clutchless" use my L4200 with the GST never gave me a hiccup, and for a week neither has the L5040;)

Thanks for the info. Since I don't have an owner's manual I have to rely on ya'll to answer my questions. This Forum helped me through the 50 hour service which I did myself. Never saw so much oil in my life! I think these Kubota's are like humans, about 90% liquid.

How do you like that L5040? That is what I am looking at trading up to when I get through beating on this one some more.:D

Newby first post, does this mean my L3000DT have the same setup? I bought it used back in 2003 and would have never guessed you could do something like this.

Not sure about the DT. I think it applies to the GST or HYD. only.

The L 3000 DT has a 2 stage dual clutch in it. The first stage is for gear and direction change and the second stage only operates the PTO.
