Been there, done that- it's no fun for active, hard working people. Wish you were closer so I could help out a little.

Skeets, I feel your pain. If I was stuck home and not being able to do much, I would go completely nuts. Would probably be OK for a couple days. Then after that I would start cheating, ticking off my wife, and driving the kids nuts. Course, she's a nurse, so I gotta watch her or else she will slip me something to get me drooling

If I lived closer, I would come over and help you out with the yard and such. I do that for my neighbors now when they get laid up. Maybe we got a member on the sight that lives close enough to come help you out, hay the yard, and break up the boredom and monotony :)

Being unable to be physically active is difficult to anyone who is normally active, but watching TV , to me, is much more difficult.

I don't need to know how many folks got shot in KC last night. And if the Royals won they don't send me a royalty check. If they lost they don't send me an invoice. All that stuff is designed to get advertisers to pay the station money, and I don't like commercials!!

Find a forum on a topic of interest. Get your mind busy. Quit thinking about all the things you "should/have to" be doing.

Get a good magazine, like "Farm Show", https://www.farmshow.com/. It's probably on YouTube also!

I was hoping you would be entertaining during you confinement. Whining is not entertaining so here you go:

It's tough, I am always tired of fly tying and reading after the first day. My best hope is always that they will let me walk, I can always find someplace to walk. Try to find something and don't ever wish the time away.

Well along those lines I am looking for second and third doctors' opinions to try to avoid having my wrist fixed since it has a stated 12 week recovery period and various casts braces etc.that make one arm and hand useless. 12 weeks:eek::eek::eek: that is practically forever on a farm, even a dinky one like mine. I've been practicing getting on the tractor one handed just in case. :( Course the status quo is not too attractive either. As has been mentioned before, getting old ain't for sissies. I have been hoping to keep the OEM parts as long as possible, none of this off the shelf stuff from China. Skeets, stockpile the boredom chasers I'll need em. The only other thing I could resort to doing is typing one handed on my tablet and answering questions on the forum that I know nothing about...:D:D

Hey Skeets,
I've been there with a busted wrist. You will eventually heal and get stronger, but in the meantime have patience. ..and stay away from chainsaws..I did for a couple of years.
The tractor? Be careful....

Chin up skeets! A guy like you won't be kept down for too long! Maybe you have hit bottom. And the one thing about hitting bottom is there is only one way to go...and that's up!

Mary, that was one funny post!

Was laid up a couple times, two weeks or more can get boring. The one time after a fall my shoulder was a mess, hated riding in vehicles as the motion aggrivated the injury. I had just bought a lathe and was curious about the workings of it and started watching videos. Mr.pete222 is quite an interesting and knowledgeable man. Not as entertaining as ave but great to pass the time.

So,watch video, walk out to shop and look at lathe to see what he's talking about, and gain understanding. Repeat. Lots of walking lots of learning. Never knew a thing about lathes until that time.

Sorry to hear you being laid up and bored to tears.

Sounds like story time. I'll go first.

I was laid up to for awhile. Had a hip replacement awhile back, 53 years old. I found out it's true, you can work yourself to the bone. Was hurting for awhile, just thought it was old age creeping up on me. Went to the Doc got an X-ray. Imagine my surprise when even I could see how bad it was. And then the added shock when he said that I needed a hip replacement. He couldn't believe that I could wait that long.

He said he could fit me in next week. This week was already filled up. Well I had a few details to take care of and scheduled a month later. Thank goodness for Mothers. She called and asked when the surgery was and she would be up to take care of me. Being single at the time it never occurred to me if she wouldn't have offered I would have had to go to a nursing home for care! Who would take care of the farm?

Checked in the hospital early morning on a Wednesday. Surgery mid afternoon and they had me up walking that night. Home on Saturday. For my next hip I'm getting the better insurance so I can stay till Sunday. :D

All went real well. Never even filled the pain med prescription from the hospital.

Well with Mom being up from Florida to take care of me and the farm she had her hands full in more ways than one. The animals were the easy part. ;)

On Monday two days out of the hospital and I’m on the extension ladder going up to the loft to get something. Oh you should have seen the look on her face. We still laugh and talk about that. But there was no laughing that day. What if I got hurt? What would her friends say? Weren't you taking care of him? :D

Well I made it through and so will you. Mom and all.

Well that killed a few minutes.

Who's next?
:)

I had a back injury years ago, with two options- surgery, or laying flat on my back on the floor with my knees raised for 4 1/2 weeks. I picked the latter. The only way I survived was having the wife build me a "floor" computer setup. CPU on a coffee table, monitor on the floor by my hip, mouse & pad by the other hip, keyboard on my belly/thighs. I surfed & played games to stave off the boredom, and even ended up doing a bunch of technical drawings & presentation slides for work. (part of my normal duties)
Between the computer, a remote & a TV across the room, I survived, but I'm not sure how much longer I could have done it.

Skeets, I know what you're going through. I had a hernia operation in 1969. I was riding a dirt bike hell bent for leather and crossed it up and went over the high side. The end of the handle bar caught me in the lower stomach and tore all the muscles inside. Not a fun thing.
Just hang in there and listen to the doctor.

Skeets, you walk around that nursing home and I'll bet you'll find several reasons to be thankful you have YOUR pains.

Enjoy life the best you can and be safe. Happy 4th.
