I'd check the clutch linkage and transmission fluid level.

Was it all the way in gear before you let out on the clutch? I've had it sometimes when it doesn't go all the way in.

It is possible you clutch is stuck or starting to stick. If the tractor sat for a while between uses and especially if it sits outside, the friction disc on the clutch can rust to the flywheel causing the gears to grind. If you can get the transmission into a gear and have the engine running with the clutch pedal pushed down run it this way for a few minutes. This will help to clean the rust and could clear your problem.
If you just ran the tractor a few days ago, and/or it sits in a covered storage this is not your problem.

Like Sam said. Sounds like the clutch is frozen. When new, it came with a block of wood to jam the clutch open if you were going to leave it stand for a month or more. The newer ones have a latch pin that will lock the clutch open, same idea. I'd get it in the gear that will send it out of the lean-to while it is off, push in the clutch, and try to start it. The starter may have enough juice to break it loose.

I got it out and used it today but the gears are still grinding. Some times they slide right in and other not they grind bad
