Greasing zerks

When I'm greasing, should grease come out all around the joint?

I'm finding that for some joints, grease only pushes out partway around of it (180 degrees vs 360).

Let me know if this isn't clear and I can upload a picture.

Grease will come out the easiest path it can. If there is force like weight on the joint that closes up one part of the joint then grease will not go through that portion of the joint.

That could be one side or one end of the joint.

Dried up grease inside the joint can also cause the flow of grease out other parts of the joint.

Depends on the style of joint, on some joints take come out only partway that just means you have found the weakest spot in the seal. If doing a universal joint it is very common to only see grease coming out on one of the four cups. After a few revolutions the grease will get distributed.

I believe that it could be dried grease in this case. But it sounds like I don't need to worry about it and it should work itself out over time? Or should I be trying to get the dried grease out with a toothpick?

What joint is giving you the “problem”?

You might want to grease that joint on a shorter cycle and see if it clears up any.

But don’t be too concerned about it as long as it gets grease in it.

It's like this on a few joints on the BX23S. Here's a picture of one example: on the backhoe stabilizers (from further away and close up).

On that one I would grease it in different positions and move it around between each pump of the grease gun. Then extend it fully and retract it fully.

Nope, that's fine. As you move that joint, it'll get smeared around. You could go crazy and take the stress off of it by letting it rest in the ground and move the thing around but it's not necessary.

One of these is on my grease gun and it's highly recommended.

Most of those pins have one grease hole on the 360 deg surface. The purpose is to place it in the joint without disassembly. Use moves it around. If you want to make sure grease makes it to both sides, inject in each max up/down position.
