Got a new GR2120 with 26 hours on it and left the ignition on for 2 days after cutting grass. It's now showing 70+ hours. I know hour meter tampering is normally not supported by anyone, including myself, but this sucks......Only option is to buy a new meter, but that would be the same as resetting the one i have now to where it should be, except it'll start at zero. Either way, I'm showing false hours. Can anyone help with this?

On my late model B7100 it will do the same thing, and on the reverse, I can remove the key while the engine is running, and the meter stops running.

I think using the honor system was the way it was designed. I'm honest though, as I keep the key in the run position and the meter running while the engine is running, but that key comes out as soon as I shut down the engine.

But I am surprised that shutting down the engine on these newer models like yours doesn't shut down the meter as well.

If it's like mine, I suspect, if you removed the key while the engine was running, the meter will not run, and the engine will eventually catch up if you keep accurate track of the hours.

If i removed the key, the engine stops. Looks like i will have to disconnect one of the 2 wires going to the meter, to keep it from counting and mark down on paper each time i use the mower, till i catch up. Could take me a year. What a pain. Cant believe they designed it this way. No benefit in this way of counting hours, or am i missing something.....
I called kubota and let them know what i think of it.

Will reversing polarity on the meter cause it to run backward?

Just a thought.

IMHO this is not something to get all anal about.
In 10 years, you'll have over 500 hours on the GR, by then 50 hours will mean little.
I'm sure you won't leave the key on again.
I mow 2.5 acres with my TG1860G, it now has 950 hours after 15 years... expect it to last another 15 years... not so sure I will. :D

Same problem with ZTR and inattentive operator.

I used a paint pen to make a list on the firewall (or somewhere) every time the key was left on: Something like ("-Xhrs date"). The '-' is a minus sign to subtract out those number of hours.

Not the best system but worked for us for years. And provides better bookkeeping of hours actually used. Handy at sale time showing contemporaneous time log to new owner to validate meter reading.

If you want to leave the key in the the tractor when you are not using it, shut the engine off REMOVE the key from the switch then put it back in. At least with mine, this will insure that it is not left in the run position. Better yet hang the key someplace on the tractor or other place. Problem solved.

Nope....tried that. Keeps counting normally.

Really, why are you worrying about this. Forget it and continue on.
Just a pain to keep accurate track of hours, for maintenance reason.

I have it disconnected the meter now and am keeping track on paper till i catch up. I was hoping somebody may have a way to roll hours back.....

They are a sealed unit just so they can't be tampered with. You pretty much make it obvious when you do which doesn't look good at trade off time.
