Got my coop setup still need to build my 8x12 run and chickens, 5 total, will be laying by July. Waiting for the weather to break maybe 2 weeks and they will be in their new home.
We have 4 hens, wife loves them more than she loves me, ok - that aint saying a lot !

We have had 8 over the last 4 years, she is devastated every time a predator gets one. Raccoons, possums and hawks are the ones that seem to get them.
She actually got bit by a possum!, had to go to the hospital and all the fun stuff.

But I will tell you, those girls are a lot of fun, they will follow you around like a puppy!

Every time I crank up the Kubota, one of them comes a running to see what I am turning up or over.

Here is a picture of "pepper" - she is a crazy bird, dont leave a car door open or she will get in the car and .........NOW she wants to drive the BX! :D

Sounds great.....this is my first go at it.....I am really looking forward to it........lots of things to learn but with all the reading I do and the ON THE JOB experience right around the corner I am sure I will manage my way, or fumble my way, through it....;)

Well my friend we use to let ours free range and put them up at night. And our garden was almost bug free and always looked good they would scratch up between the rows when plants got bigger and well fertilize them too,,lol, Baby sis had a big Leghorn rooster that ruled with an iron han,,errr, wing. He would chase cats, dogs, and the meter reader. Enjoy my friend:D

My wife has three hens ,they are out loose during most of the day. They do eat a load of bugs and grubs. But a stray dog or large hawk can be trouble.
Here's the coup before winter...

My 10 yr old daughter joined the 4H at her school and she got 13 chicks last week in the chicken chain program. It was supposed to be 12 but the guy miscounted. They are in the brooder now. We are going to build a coop in the next few days. Going to have an enclosed run attached to the coop.

We are still debating the look. Wife wants it "pretty". I want it function and able to move around with the tractor if need be.

Yes this is our first go at keeping chickens.

You may want to look into a chicken tractor so you can let them move place to place to eat bugs.

If you have not been to this site:

it is the "best" site around to learn anything about those fine feathered friends!

Just like this site only with feathers!:D
