After years of using John Deere products a L120 for 7 years and the last 3 years a X320, I was sadly disappointed by John Deere's action of getting the local dealer to sell out to a regional company that has taken the chosen path of not dealing on price. I wanted a a X700 series garden tractor to supplement my John Deere 2305 with the backhoe, front end loader and 62 inch mid mount mower.

My main issues are in the spring when I have to start mowing I need a garden tractor to mow the yard. Just at half my property of 5 acres is in lawn and the spring is always has a areas that remain wet and the 2305 will get stuck and any sub compact tractor will get struck in the clay that is in my soil because of the weight of the tractor.

My X320 was also getting struck and I needed something that had has 4 wheel drive. So I was pricing what I wanted and the new owners at the Deere dealership would not even negotiate down from $14,800 for a X758 that I wanted. I also was tired of having to use two different fuels for my equipment and I wanted diesel.

So I started to shop around a bit to get quotes on the various equipment. The New Holland dealer did not have what I wanted and wanted to sell a zero turn mower. The Case dealer also did not sell garden tractors but did sell sub compact tractors. So off to the final lot and Kubota dealership, I looked at a T-series tractor but it went off the list as I wanted a diesel garden tractor and so I walked around the lot a little longer and the tractor by the front door jumped out to me and as it was a diesel and 4 wheel drive it had a nice chrome decal on the hood that said GR2120. I now was very interested as it also had the 3 bin bagger on it and 4 wheel drive.

So I proceed in to the dealership and start to talk to the salesman about the tractor. It seems that the tractor that jumped in front and said it was diesel and 4 wheel drive was a year old GR2120 that was returned as the prior owner decided that he needed a BX series tractor and it had 10 hours on it. So I had to ask and the salesman stated that I could get it for $9,400 for everything. Now the list price for new is $9,400 for just the tractor and $1,500 for the bagger. So I asked if they take trade ins and I had a X320 with 48" deck and bagger and the place said that I could get $3,600 for the trade in. Since the GR2120 was still considered new I got zero down and zero percent interest on the balance.

Well I just signed on the dotted line and took delivery of my new garden tractor Friday and started to mow my yard yesterday and finished a couple hours ago and I can say that this was the garden tractor that handles my wet sloppy yard and gives excellent results mowing. I am sure glad that the Gr2120 jumped in front of me.

Mowing with this tractor the results really surprised me as it looks great and the fine cut 54" does great.

Since no thread about buying a new garden tractor is not complete without pictures here are a couple to consider.

Looks nice. That is pretty sweet. It is tough to mow my finish lawn with my tractor, especially without AG tires. One day would like to get something in this range.

I actually wanted the bar tires but the dealership did not have any bar tire outfitted and it would take a week to get the tires so I decided to try the turf tires. The turfs seem to work fine for my yard and I already tear up my lawn pretty good in the wet anyway.

I hit a couple of my swimming pools already when I was mowing and the GR2120 did not even slow down. I think that if needed I could order a set of bars but I now doubt that I need them and the turfs are still pretty good.

Mike,
A buddy of mine is a JD fan......and I think understands the value of a great mower, he is looking at a new one. I saw this on the website for the first time today......looks to be a great machine, little pricey new....but then again you get what you pay for these days. Let us know how you like it after 50 hours. I am sure it will be awesome! :D

85Hokie I will try and keep this updated. I am a died in the wool green and yellow fan but what with what JD has been doing forcing out all the smaller dealers there is now no price competition and one price is all you get, take it or leave it.

I so far really like the way this mows and it will be used to mow all the time. If I need to do something outside it ability I still have my 2305 which I use to maintain the rest of my property.

BTW I used to years ago have a gray market Kubota a L1801. I really liked that tractor and I sold it to a friend at work who is still using it and said it is the perfect tractor for his property. Strong but loud when running.....

The GR2120 is really a niche product bigger then a lawn tractor and more capable, but does not quite make it to a true garden tractor where you can really use ground engaging equipment.

That looks like a primo machine! What do you do with a 3 bin bagger? Sounds like a nightmare to me... Isn't a single big one better? Please do send that 50 hr report...

gpreuss The 3 bin bagger is actually the right way to go if you are bagging a large amount of grass, with a single large bin you have to go to a mechanical release which adds more complicated release levers and even more added weight. With the 3 bag system it is much lighter and less mechanically that can go wrong and the person simply lifts the the bag and dumps it.

Also the simple bags are easier to replace if they get damaged and cheaper. With the single bag if that is torn now you are in for some dollars if you have to replace it.

Actually if you go to u-tube and type in "GR2120" in Europe Kubota sells a mower deck that is rear discharge and has a single bag with mechanical release. It is kind of interesting

This mower is actually a lot faster mowing then I ever expected. Today I went out and mowed as we are expecting to have rain tomorrow. I bagged the front yard but took the blower off and mowed regular for the rest of the yard. The grass is still to wet to really bag the rest and this being western Washington the yard is still pretty wet.

It took me about 2 hours total to mow the entire yard and since it has dryed out some in the week and half I have had the GR2120. This tractor is using a lot less diesel then the X320 used in gas, I am using about 3/4 a gallon per acre where the X320 would use right at a gallon and half of gas and I am happy as the yard looks even better then the Deere ever did.

The power steering was sure appreciated as I am also recovering from having stomach flu since Thursday and I am a little weak but I got the job done and I am back to eating my favorite foods and the wife is not worried about me.

The yard is now mowed and I really have to get the Echo string trimmer out but that can wait until the long weekend and I can trim back all the areas I have not been able to. Soon my yard will look like the park that I want it to look like.

Bought my 1st Kubota a used l3000dt and have gotten better service from our local dealer whom I've never bought anything but maintenance items and get treated waaaaay better than the green dealer whose gotten 80-$100k out of me. I won't buy another d*%= thing off of them. They only wanna sell $300,000 machines and could care less about me needing a $200 part for a 40 yr old wheat drill. Congratulations sir on your purchase.

Well I got the mowing done yesterday as it was a dry day and I also bagged my entire front and back yards. The Gr2120 preformed excellent and got my yard looking like a golf course fairway and that was intention that I wanted. No clogging at all and a nice looking yard with hardly any clippings left behind. I ended up with a pile of clippings 20 feet long by 6 feet wide and 5 feet high in my compost pile in my pasture. I also took the JD 2305 with my brush cutter and got the pasture rough mowed so the grass is not 4 feet high anymore. I was really busy yesterday but I still need to do some trimming around the place with the weed eater but it will wait as it is raining today.

I bought a new 2014 Gr2120 Diesel 54 inch mower this spring . I had used a Gt5000 Craftsman before. I live in a woods and have some steep hills . Where I slid down hills and made runs to get up others, I can now go up or down without sliding . The power steering is great and the diesel just sips fuel . I can't believe the difference the 4 wd made. If I have any complaint, it rides stiffer than the Gt5000 did. Have tried adjusting seat ,but hasn't helped . Did make a bumper for mine, Kubota doesn't offer one and hoods are expensive.
