As Ted Nugent would so eloquently say……”Whack’em and stack’em” my friends. (y)

Last week my wife unfortunately "filled her tag” using the mini-van.

Man….3 deer strikes in 4 years is getting ridiculous…...

The important part is that she has not been hurt.

The guy that stopped to help her said it was an 8 point, but that is of little consolation.

IMG_4687.JPG

So my SIL “knows a guy” that deals in used parts at very ‘reasonable prices”, so I spent my weekend in the garage.

IMG_4751.JPG

IMG_4758.JPG

It’s kind of funny how all that damage boils down to just a few bolts.

IMG_4759.JPG

Oh, and what F’ing job would not be complete until I F’ing knocked the damn windshield washer pump out of place, and spilled an entire gallon of solvent on the floor!!!!!!

IMG_4753.JPG

IMG_4754.JPG

She has nearly 1/4 of a million miles on her, and “the guy” did not have a used bumper, so its time for a “combat repair”

Here is “Humpty” all back together again.

That really sucks, but good job on getting humpty dumpty back together again! (y)

This is why I like to have big, strong, frame mounted bumpers on my vehicles. I've yet to hit a deer, elk, moose or bear up here in Big Sky country, although a buck did run into the side of my F-250 a few years ago which cost me $2k in repairs. Overall I've been lucky, but something strong up front can mean the difference between spending the night on the side of the road or making it home.

The bottom photo is not my truck but I do have the bumper shown but haven't installed it yet. Another job for the spring.

Ouch. That sux. Looks like a lot of work RWS. Not to add any salt to the wound but man, that rotor in pic #5 looks like sh!t. lol.

My wife punched her tag last year day before thanksgiving. I added some "bling" as a reminder for the insurance adjuster. lol

PS...big Fan of Ted here. Saw him in concert circa 1980. He cam out on stage swinging from a tarzan rope wearing a loincloth. LOL

Back in the mid 70s I had a bud , may he rest in peace, That bought a NEW Dodge truck, 1 year 3 deer. He put a brush guard/ Bambi bumper on it, and until he got rid of the truck, he never hit another deer. Some kind of JuJu I dont know

The company I worked for had maybe 40 pickups in the fleet. On two occasions we had 2 deer strikes in one day. We generally had around a dozen per year.

1. I am glad no body hurt. (Did airbag deploy?)

2. Now that we have most important thing out of way, my snark kicks in…
Did all four attacks happen to a vehicle that said ‘Dodge’ ?! Or just the most recent?

3. Will your taxidermist create the mount with a dodge emblem in some way? If so we got have a pic. (And see more deer every morning than I do cats until i

4. Deer are road hazards…i love to watch wildlife, but I am a conservationist at heart and I love brother Ted’s Kill it and Grill it! (And I am an avid hunter as a way of life.)

5. In my first pick up truck I had three deer run into the read quarter of of my truck in a single incident.

6. I have had 3 collisions with deer with 3 vehicles within 15 yards of one another. The worst incident was on a RVT1000 (RC51) on my way to work…it did not work out for the deer or the motorcycle…I actually hit it twice, driving over it the second time. The deer literally lost his sliver and shit all over me.

7. I have been fortunate not to hit a deer while on the track (it’s been really close), but I have had a goose hit me in shoulder at triple digits and a owl to the helmet at triple digits (both while in track)…both hurt worse than the deer that totaled my personal motorcycle. The owl felt like what I would imagine it would feel like if someone hit me with a ball bat or sledgehammer with helmet on…I don’t know that to be true but it explains some of what is wrong with me, maybe. 🤔

Anyway, key point is I am glad everyone at your place safe. I hope you like my wildlife data points.

Keep the rubber side down.

I once hit a deer and had to make an insurance claim for it. The adjuster did not believe that I hit a deer because I had washed the car and there was no readily visible evidence of blood or hair. He asked me if I had proof of the hit and I took him to my garage and showed him the deer carcass hanging. He decided to take a closer look at the car and crawled underneath it this time. After closer inspection he found a few hairs under the wheel well and decided that I was telling the truth. As he was writing out the settlement check he asked me why I washed the car. I told him that I considered fixing the damage myself and I wanted to see just how bad it was before making that decision. He told me not to wash the car if there happened to be a next time. I wish that was the only time that I ever hit a deer, but it wasn't.

I was an insurance field adjuster in a rural, mountainous area so although I’ve hit only one deer, I’ve been involved in a few thousand deer v car situations. They were almost always easy, routine claims: rarely any injuries, no real investigation, establish damages and pay. That, and most folks there had hit a deer or three before so they knew the drill.

A few were more interesting. Got one that was just “Hit deer” so that’s all I knew before I called. The 20 something insured guy answered the phone and we start with basics: no one hurt, he says car is drivable but windshield is out so I disagree, sounds totaled and it’s at his house so we agree on a time to meet to look at it that afternoon. Then he asks if there’s any coverage for mental trauma. I tell him no because there wasn’t, but this is a weird question from a backwoods redneck dude so I have to ask him why he’s asking. So he tells me his story.

He got off work from his factory job at 4am and was driving home to the edge of nowhere where he lives. While in the middle of nowhere on a twisty mountain road, one of those roads with a sheer rock wall on one side and a cliff on the other side, a deer jumps from the mountainside and lands on his windshield. Fortunately, it hits mostly on the passenger side. Goes through the windshield, breaks the passenger seat back, and ends up in the back seat. No cell service for miles. Nearest house about a mile. Nowhere to pull off the road. Deer is dead. He kicks out what’s left of the windshield so he can see, and tries to limp it the remaining 20 miles home. That’s going fine for about 5 miles. Then it becomes apparent the deer was knocked out, but it’s not dead. It’s pretty busted up but not bad enough to not make a hell of a ruckus in the back seat. Panic stop off the side of the road and run to the nearest house for help. No real help there but at least got to use a phone to call police. 2 hours later, police show up. Highway Patrolman is slightly irritated, asks him if he came all that way just to call a tow truck for him. No one hurt and just a busted windshield isn’t enough to be a reportable accident. Driver tells him the problem is the busted, still alive, panicked, pissed off deer. Trooper checks, sees its true, and realizes he has to do something with this deer. So the giant gorilla Trooper literally grabs it by the horns and wrestles it out of the car. It’s back legs are useless so it can’t run. Trooper takes his night stick and goes to wailing on it, trying to beat it to death. The deer is bleating, fighting, making all manner of horrible noises but it’s no closer to expiring. Driver asks him why he doesn’t just shoot it. Trooper asks if he has any clue how much paperwork he’ll have to fill out if he fires his gun. Then trooper switches tactics to trying to strangle the deer using the night stick as a garrote. More bleating, fighting, terrible noises from both the deer and Trooper. After near half an hour of this craziness, driver can’t stand it any longer so he asks the Trooper if he can just shoot the damn deer himself. Trooper asks him why he let him and the deer go through all this if he could have shot it himself, then pauses and realizes why (rural area where everybody knows everybody). Trooper then asks how would a convicted felon out on probation be able to shoot anything. Driver asks him if he’d like to keep choking a deer or close his eyes while driver retrieves his pistol, which he might or might not have depending on trooper’s answer. Driver shot the deer and took it home in his windshieldless car.

When I met him that afternoon he was just finishing up vacuum packing the deer. Said he was so traumatized by all the events of the morning he wasn’t sure he could continue deer hunting and that had to be worth something. Agreed, but not something I could pay for. Did pay for his totaled car and a rental for a couple weeks.

About a week later, I was eating lunch at a gas station/grill with a couple co-workers. The trooper, who I’d known for a few years, walked in so I stopped him as he was walking past us and asked him if it was really true he tried to beat a 10 point buck to death and then tried to choke it out. He didn’t say yes or no, but did say, “@$&@ you, @&$%*#.” I, and many others in the little grill, interpreted that as “yes” so we all got a good laugh out of it.

No, surprisingly/thankfully they did not.

The airbag sensors are located on the "radiator core support”, just a 1/4 inch below the headlights.

The “core support” was wasted, “just above” that part, but amazingly the "sensor area" was unmolested.

I had to replace “basically everything” forward of the fan though.

Cost me about a “Grand” in total for the parts, and 2 days on the hoist. (I could have done it in one day, but Amazon had a delay on the fan shipment that set me back.) 🍻

The last time we made a claim, my wife wanted to “wash the blood off” and I told her “no way, thats our ‘proof’” 🍻

My Wife hasn't hit one (Yet) but found a dead Buck laying out in our front yard two mornings ago. It had been hit by a vehicle. Broke of the G2,G3 tines, broken rear leg and internal injuries.

Have to be very careful driving this time of year (rut in full swing).

Last week a buck was hit and was laying in my front yard still alive. Someone called the state police who put 3 rounds in it from his 9mm. The cop used his body cam to video everything which reduces paperwork. The Amish neighbor wanted the meat so I got the loader and delivered it. Last year was much the same but no police and the Amishman dragged the deer home since the deer was smaller and there was a bit of snow to make it easier. The current crop of drivers have no clue about how to drive, especially during the rut.

Throw in harvest time and they be moving at all hours. Seeing a lot more on the farm roads I drive. Wife says I should take the freeway but I’d rather impact at 40 than 74
