Looks like Google having a wide spread outage. I noticed this morning I couldn't get to my Gmail account. Tried YouTube and it is down. Did some checking on different downtector websites and it appears that Google services are failing around the world. Don't know if it is an update that went bad or what?

Well, I need to post on here more often. Been waiting since 5AM for Google to come back online to access some documents I have stored, I post on here, and they come right back up.

I had no idea this forum was that powerful.

Well, as soon as I posted this, my email refreshed and works. Go figure.

The google wide web is just a switch pull from going away. Same for FB and the others.

I recall a few years back some workers severed a major trunk and it ended up shutting down "half the internet" for a while. (it was a bit odd in that what was down depended on where you were - there were problems routing around the breakage)

Like so much else in our interconnected world, a lot of people don't realize how easy it is to disrupt.

I thought it was kind of interesting when it went down this morning while I was in the middle of working on gmail I found information on it on a tractor forum before I found it anywhere else. Shortly after seeing the early posts here, I found https://downdetector.com/status/google/map/ which appears to track Google outages globally. There was a hard spike with quite a few hot spots shortly after 6am EST this morning.

When I signed in today I got a notice to update my email address because OTT couldn't send email to me. Nothing was wrong with it - I wonder if that might have been related...

Didn't Kim Kardashian do the same thing with her "photos" of herself with a bottle of bubbly?

Gmail definitely had a problem last couple days with incoming emails bouncing. They say it's fixed, but I'm still not getting emails from here or other forums/blogs.

If you haven't already tried, go into account settings and check that your email is there, if it is delete it and then add it again log out then log back in see if that helps.

I don't trust having anything stored "in the cloud." Seems like every couple of days some clod storage platform goes Tang Uniform and businesses that rely on them grind to a halt. While some things, like my phone files are backed up automatically to Verizon, and I share files occasionally on Google Drive, everything is backed up to a trio of NAS devices on the network. I even have a drive image of my main computer made and stored on one, then copied to another every month.

It's not that I don't trust those services, but I don't.

It was definitely a gmail service problem, they listed an outage and there were a LOT of reports on the support forum. Seems to have gotten resolved.

Yeah I've been planning to move off gmail for awhile, just haven't gotten around to doing it. Maybe this is the kick in the pants I needed.

I have a Gmail account, but also another account at a local ISP that I've had for over 20 years. I don't know that they have ever been down, except for a few months that they outsourced the email to Gmail. After a LOT of complaints about the Gmail service, they brought it back in house. No problems since then.
