What is the composition of the wire used on the controller for the glow plug
which glows as it heats ?

Is this what you are looking for?

nichrome 80/20 (80% Nickel, 20% Chromium) wire,

It is likely copper, if it is feeding power to the glow plugs.

The composition of the glow plug itself should not be a concern. It is what it is.

The controller would not use nichrome wire as there would be no reason, as nichrome wire produces heat, hence it unlikely used anywhere other than the glow plugs. AND the wire feeding the glow plugs would only be copper as generating heat in the wire feeding the glow plugs would have no purpose.

I assure you that little piece of wire in that little bitty hole on the dash .......... get a bit hot - ifn you hold the key long enough! That amber glow is simply pure heat.

On that particular model - you could light a cigarette .... ifn you could get it in the hole and hold the key!

That is an indicator light, and not related to the original question I think...

Actually not sure about the indicator light though. I do not know what causes the glow plug light on my tractors to come on. But regardless, the question related to wire feeding the glow plugs, not whatever is used to indicate the glow plugs are energized.

Edit: also, I think glow plugs are often rated at less than 12 volts for whatever reason. Perhaps if a piece of nichrome wire is used to indicate power flow to the glow plugs, it also causes the needed voltage drop so the glow plugs receive the design voltage, rather than the full battery voltage. Just a guess though.

On these models .......... there is no LIGHT ......... there is an element that glows when the key is held - yes, you gotta hold the little beeuach a while to get it to glow - but it will glow! Other tractors DO have a light that shows the plugs are glowing.......

Yes, I was referring to the on dash indicator, which has a heavy wire that begins to glow when power is being fed to the glow plugs.
Thanks for the replies.

Semantics...if the wire lights for the purpose of giving information, then it is a light...

It would be unwise to bypass that dash indicator with copper wire, as doing so would likely over voltage the glow plugs and lead to premature failure...
