I have a Ruger Security Six that I usually carry in a knee holster. I always have it with me when working in my yard, mainly intended to shoot snakes or at least scare them off. As years go by, I’m starting to feel the weight of that thing, so I’m ready to change it for a 10mm lighter gun. I’m close to buying a used Glock 10mm with Flashlight Laser Sight so I can hunt for snakes at night when most of them come out. I’m not sure if this gun has the potential for deer hunting because of its short barrel.

For a backup pistol for your hunting rifle, it’s hard to beat a revolver with a good hot copper jacketed hollow point. I have a Ruger GP-100 in .357 magnum. I’ve put down a rifle shot elk with the gun when walking up to the downed elk.
