The GST transmission is basically just a standard transmission, fully synchronized, with an automatic, hydraulically activated clutch when you move the shifter to change gears the clutch is released and then reapplied somewhat like the old VW automatic.
They have been very reliable and are considerably more efficient than the hydrostatic transmission.

I second that, my maintenance on an HST ( Fluid and filter changes ) fuel cost, etc... is considerably high than a good old gear tractor. Be glad you have it, just learn how to feel your way into gears ( don't grind them until you find them )
