We had just started our mower after about 3 weeks and mowed 2 rounds when it died belching smoke. No luck trying to re-start it. Opened the oil filler and the the rockers were opening the valve when we tried to start it. Oil was full and the the fuel shut off was operating properly. Removed the fuel line at the injector pump inlet and the fuel was pumping fine with the key on. Battery was fully charged and cranking speed was good. I cracked 2 of the injectors and little to no fuel came out when we turned the engine over.

Any ideas what to look at?

thanks,
Ken

How old is it and how many hours of operation logged on it? Could be time to replace the injectors or have them cleaned.

Start cheap and easy and get a bottle of injector cleaner and pour it into the fuel tank and see what that does.

You can try the injector cleaner but I think your problems are bigger than that.
You say it cranks fine at normal speed? Is there any smoke out the exhaust as you crank?
How long did it run blowing smoke till it died?
Any other symptoms you can describe that might help?

Found the problem. Water in the fuel. Disconnected the line to the injector pump and pumped about 3 oz into a glass jar and the bottom fourth was water. Drained the tank and lines, fresh fuel, and it's running great. I pulled the tank to check for cracked lines or some other way water could have gotten into the tank, but didn't see anything.

Now to look for a water separator...
