Generation Z - Life is not fair

Just had a long chat with our Gen Z'er.
All started with the statement that, " Life is so unfair".
Gramps put down the morning coffee, pulled back the ponytail, took a deep breath, and started the insight.
Went like this.
Life is incredibly fair!
YOU have the ability to make decisions how how you treat life. Make a bad choice and there is a very good chance that you can reverse course and try again. You can love or hate as you decide. Walk with your back to the wind or lean in and push against that same wind.
DEATH is unfair. It is final and cares not of your feelings. If you waited too long to tell someone you loved them, it is too late. If your heart aches it shows your love, but life tells you to carry on.
So, make the most of what you have, fight for what you want, take what life offers you and try not to leave regrets.

She wiped away some hidden tears, gave a big hug, went to her room , and on the phone messenger.
Perhaps there is hope for some of this generation as long as they share their feelings and the older generations give honest advice and care enough to listen.

Good advice Mike however sometimes that sucker punch to the guts life gives you takes time to get over. You have 2 choices, get over it and never forget or spend the short time we have left being miserable.

Youngsters need to grasp the concept of decision making. Some decisions made on the spur of the moment can effect one for their entire life! They need to ask, how will this choice effect me 5 yrs or 10 year from now?

The reality of life is that humans actually 'fail' far more often than we 'win'.... this is how humans learn how to deal with the tribulations of everyday life.

It is now believed that many of today's problems are due to a young generation failing to learn 'disappointment' at a young age. Parents, schools, and even society try to teach youngsters that EVERYONE is a winner and noone fails.

On the surface, it seem like a good way to rear children by shielding them from 'disappointments' in their life.... but is it?

Mebbie it is OK to say "no" to getting that new toy or NOT get a prize when your team loses the game. Youngsters NEED to understand and be able to handle when someone 'talks about them' behind their back or does not invite them to the big party. Learning these lessons in the formative years teaches young adults to deal with tougher problems.

Without the ability to deal with 'disappointment' in life.... the teenage years can be unbearable. Studies have revealed this is one reason mass-shootings take place. Without the ability to handle the rigors of life, it is all too easy beleive there is nothing else to lose.

Life is fair, if you learn how to manage it properly. As a youngster in the mid fifties, and growing up poor, I was always aware of the choices others around me were making. I saw many, many poor choices being made, from, excessive drinking, drugs, poor driving habits, the dangers of not paying off credit cards in full at the end of every month to save on interest payments, etc, and learned very quickly the choices which helped me become a better person. I only bought I could afford, by paying cash for it, and have never made monthly payments on anything, including vehicles. I learned quickly how to deal with daily issues that arise, and to take care of them as they arise. I also learned how to save money, and how to make a buck earn several more. I always lived within my means, and never gave a rat sass what any of my friends or neighbours were buying, on credit. There are ways to get ahead, but tough choices have to be made, and many times, it is not the instant gratification stuff that teaches life lessons.
