Hello all !!

My gearbox (RCK54) went south on me and needed a gear set, bearings, and seal replacement. I felt confident enough to do this on my own however, I am having trouble getting the input shaft and bearing to go into the box far enough to install the retaining clip and shims. I have talked to my local Kubota shop about it, they told me I was putting the input shaft in backwards..... I thought, that's possible, but the box being square with equal distance from the center. I didn't see what difference it made. I went back home and tried putting the shaft in the other way with the same results. After a week of messing with it I decided to take it back to my local shop and let them rebuild it for me, I am going to find out what the heck was going on. Any thoughts or experience on this issue?? I would like to hear your thoughts.
Thanks,
- Mike

I was just looking at a couple box housings I have out in the shop. Both are from RCK72P-331Z. They aren't able to be assembled backwards, won't go. Housing is a little bit different on each end where the snap ring lives, to the point where I could see it being a problem in trying to put the ring back in on one end if it was backwards. Would also cause some issue with bearing preload and gear backlash.
