My goofy Kubota owners manual says to "remove & clean the screen when changing transmission fluid".

Well, that's fine. Don't mind doing that at all. If I could just FIND IT !

My rig is a 1989 B9200 4WD Gear Drive. I really think Kubota is refering to the hydrostatic drive unit, which I don't have.

Can someone offer some input as to where I may find this "screen"? I have the complete exploded view diagrams of my tractor, and I can't find a transmission screen anywhere.

go to thetop of the page. click on "search", type in "screen", and it will pull up all threads that has that word in it. On the home page where the picture of the tractor is, scroll down and i think vic has an article on that.

Thanks, guy's for your input. I was begining to wonder if there was going to be any reply's to my post. As many older Kubota's as there are involved with this web site, I know this has got to be ( or should be) a fairly hot topic for anyone that is truly interested in maintaining their tractor.

I guess I got a little rushed, cause' after I let the old fluid drain for 24 hrs, I went ahead and added the new hydraulic fluid. So, if there is a screen, I guess I'll have to drain the new fluid back out.

I don't really think my 1989 B9200D has a screen. I read the info @ the link you guy's provided, and I'm with the understanding that the screens were only on the early B's. Also, my tractor has the CANISTER oil filter ( $31.00 )
@ the dealer.

I can't get to the tractor til' Monday. I'll look real good for sign's of a screen,
cause' if my rig does have one, it's got to come out for cleaning / inspection / replacement.

I haven't started it up yet. Wanted to let it sit so the bubbles would all rise
to the top.

Your B9200 will also have a screen. If it has HST it will have TWO one on each side.

Ok. Does it require me to drain all the fluid out again,
in order to remove the screen?
Thank you, Ed.

I was under the impression that since my tractor has the
canister oil filter, the screen was eliminated.

Guess I need to locate that screen!

Ok. I couldn't stop thinking about this screen today. So, tonight I went out
to my shop and here's what I found...........

I traced the large pipe & hose ( suction ) back to the trans. Took a photo
of the area that was described to me where the screen would be.

Then, I drained all the hydraulic fluid back out and removed the hose &
fitting. What I found was simply a metal tube formed at 90 degrees to make
a simple sump pick-up. No screen.

RandyJ,

That line you took off deals with your HST system and it's on the side of the transmission. Trace back the larger steel line that is hooked up to the tractors main hydraulic pump on the RH side of the engine. Where that larger line enters the tractors body at the rear is where you will find the first of the three hydraulic filters eServe is talking about.

Here's a pic of the what the screen looks like. View attachment 1086

Your tractor has two of them, and the canister filter.

HST system ? I have a B9200D Gear Drive, with a clutch. Not Hydrostatic Drive. The HST is Hydrostatic, right ?

I did trace back the larger steel line from the pump when I removed that
fitting with the 90 degree tube pick-up last night. That's the same exact area
you are refering to where I should have found a metal screen. No screen there.

You say my tractor has two metal screens ? I can't even find one !
Are you guy's thinking I've got Hydrostatic Drive ?

If there is even one screen, I want to remove it for a good cleaning / replacement before I put the hydraulic fluid back in.

Is this just a simple misunderstanding, or am I missing something?
HELP!!
