Unleaded regular in the big city 2.34, diesel is 2.95. Up in my neck of the woods, 2.63 for unleaded, Diesel is 2.70.

Highest seen on the commute today
regular unleaded 2.89
Diesel 2.95

We will be jumping around .12/gal due to a fuel tax increase starting July 1.

Wait'll someone gets the idea to put a tariff on imported oil. (But, of course, the Canadians and the Saudis will pay for it.)

The Ministry of Truth says its some pipeline hackers that created a shortage and price spike this time

Regular unleaded in North Idaho is currently $2.85 +/- and diesel is $2.93 +/-.

Hope everyone else is doing well through everything crazy going on these days.

It is hard to believe that a pipeline which is obviously critical to the US economy does not have better cyber-security.

Someone needs to be RESPONSIBLE for protecting our way of life. ...... oh wait... that is a valid role for the federal government. (Protecting our life and liberty)

lets hope they step-up to the task.

Our pipeline was not affected but folks are watching TV news and filling up jugs. Maybe they need to stuff some of that extra toilet tissue into their gas tanks.

I am entirely ignorant here since I live in the Midwest. Is Colonial Pipeline a private company?

Nevermind. I didn't check the date and didn't realize how old the thread was.

Reg here in central VA was $1.89 in November. Last week (end of April) it was $2.89 prior to the pipeline issue.
Supposedly, the pipeline will be flowing again by May 17th. Barely down for a week. Yet people panic.
I imagine prices have spiked this week and once the line is flowing, prices will not come down, seeing foreign oil will see this as an opportunity to raise crude. Too bad the US was energy independent only til 11/2020. It was a nice couple of years, seeing international crude prices bounce and the US staying stable. All those oil jobs. Oh (Oil) well.

It amazes me that it wasn't better protected.
What amazes me more is that they can't run the pipeline manually. Isn't that how we used to do things?
Seems like you could just unplug the interfaces, open & close valves, switch on pumps, route fuel through different pipes all the old fashioned way.
And they said that it would have no effect on gas prices out here, but prices are already up 40 cents since this hit the news.

I went to get fuel and OMG you would have thought it was the gas shortage of 1979. Reg 309 diesel 349 and off road 329, it was crazy

I see your frustration but keep in mind that they would have to then run and maintain 2 entirely separate systems, one manual and one automated. Also both of these systems would then be Cat I Div I restricted due to the ability for the fuel to explode if exposed to an ignition source between its UEL and LEL. In case of a cyber attack. This definitely isn't feasible.

They cannot just switch the automated system to manual due to safety lockouts and the inability of certain equipment to be operated manually. Having a completely manual system would probably permanently increase fuel prices by at least 10 cents a gallon and would still not guarantee that there are no major hiccups because of human error.

The solution is better cyber security or air gapping certain critical systems so they cannot be remotely tampered with.

Mississippi reportedly has the largest fuel reserve in the US in Pascagoula and is not dependent in any way upon the pipe line that was disabled.

Of course we know that politics is a No No here. So no politics. But what a difference a few (like a couple) months make.
Enough said.
