G'day all, a newbie here to ride on mowers as I've just recently moved to a rural property.

Anyhow, was completing the last 2 square meters of my lawn today when the mower died due to overload on the deck. I was mowing over a thick area.

Went to start it up using a screwdriver.....and.....nothing. The key doesn't start the unit, I need to connect the points at the starter motor until I have it repaired. Nonetheless, the unit wouldn't start. The glowplugs would not even fire up, usually I can hear a tick/buzz sounds from under the seat. The square red light on the dash did not switch on also.

There is 12V going to the starter motor - I have tested this.

Any guidance or possible troubleshooting would be appreciated.

Thanks fellas

Jump the starter from the big power lug, to the small spade to get the starter to spin..
IF it wont.. pull the starter back, it might be stuck..
Are u familiar w/ a "remote starter button/switch"?? Its a cheap little gizmo that hooks to any starter w/ a push button.. so u don't have to use a screwdriver..
Its a VERY handy little tool..& inexpensive..

MAKE SURE its in Neutral.!!! or it WILL run u over.!!!
Good luck.

Just following along to see what the issue is.

The ticking under the seat is the fuel pump, the red light on the dash is the oil pressure light. Can you preheat it at all? Turn the key counter clockwise and wait for the coil on the dash to get red hot, which could take 30 seconds. Preheating also engages the fuel pump and gets fuel in the lines to the engine. The plugs shouldn't fire up if you're bypassing the ignition switch at the starter.

My 1985 G5200 does not want to start when hot. I've verified 12 volts to the starter too. It was about 15*F last weekend. Had the block heater plugged in for a little under and hour and she fired right up. Did my thing and parked it. Tried starting it for the heck of it and nothing.

Personally, I would start by getting the ignition switch fixed.

I have been jumping it since I got it to start it. It did come with a push switch which I haven't installed yet. I was able to turn the key anti clockwise and the fuel pump would prime (not the glowplugs as I now know!). It doesn't prime up now.

The coil does is non existent on the dash - another one to get fixed!

I might try moving the starter to see if it is jammed.

Thanks guys

Well the fault has been found.....dirty battery terminals [emoji58]
You know, I was going to suggest that until I saw you were getting 12 volts at the starter.

Had this issue with a G1800 over the summer. Glad you found it.
