The gearbox on my g1800 deck ran dry so had to replace some bearings and seals. The pto shaft damaged the seal housing and it still leaks. My question is how do i get it to stop leaking without spending a fortune.Obviously machining or replacing the case would be a fix but looking for a cheaper option.
Also would a G5200 gearbox be interchangeable I can get one for free
Any advice welcome

Instead of oil fill it with what is called flowable grease. John Deere calls it corn head grease. Others will call it 00 flowable grease. It should provide the lubrication you need but will not leak out. Many people use it on old gear boxes the they cant keep oil in.

A couple options, a redi or speedy sleeve, available through local auto/ farm parts supply, they will need to measure shaft. A little difficult to install, but will restore seal surface. Might want to google it.

As far as 00 grease, also used in snapper gearboxes. So any lawn and garden snapper dealer will carry it.
