Hi All;

New member and first time diesel owner here. At 61 I’m not too proud to admit what I don’t know and need a little help. Hopefully someone can provide a little guidance here. .
Picked up a G1800 recently with only 458 hours on the clock. Began process of a reset maintenance ; engine oil, filters, air filter , fuel filters , Rear end service , blades , lubrication etc. Now I’ve got fuel delivery issues. Couldn’t get the secondary fuel filter to prime , nor could I get the air out of the fuel line. in fact, I couldn‘t get fuel up into the secondary filter.
Began tracing fuel delivery at the tank. Free flowing out of the tank into primary filter. Free flowing out of the filter into the inlet side of the lift pump. ZERO FLOW out of the lift pump to the secondary filter and engine. Voltage to harness is 12.2 volts. Turn key on and you can feel pump is running with no sound and ZERO flow out of it . So….there’s the obvious source of the issue.
‘Kubota dealer wants 174.00 for this 12v lift pump. REALLY????? Amazon has dozens of them for less that 30.00 . Is there that much difference in these things that justifies 174.00? Need a little insight and wisdom here regarding all this. Thanks , everyone.

As long as the GPM and PSI are similar, the only difference is the profit Kubota extracts from you.
Also be sure 'port' fittings are the same ( 5/16" hose / 8mm ??) and order 2 of them ! That way YOU have an 'on the shelf spare',just in case the new one fails. 2 pumps for 1/3rd the cost of the OEM version , wow !!!

I've messed with those pumps in the past. Yes you can use a cheap pump. No it won't last, nor is it the right pump. The OE pump has a built in shutoff, when the pressure rises to a certain pressure, it cuts the pump off so that it doesn't burn itself up and/or over-fuel the injection pump. It's a good system, and works excellent. It lasted this long didn't it? They quit making G1800's in what, 1998 or something? So, it made it 25 years give or take? A parts store replacement chincanese pump will NOT last that long, guaranteed.

would really need to see the specs of the 'replacement' pump to compare to the OEM version.
I've had a $25 'offshore' one in my forklift for the past 10 years,never,ever had fuelpump problems,even at -24C.

Well there’s certainly pros and cons to it for sure. Hell even the Edelbrock Micro Pumps are less than half of the OE . I’m not cheap by any means but Jesus H

Well , thanks fellas for the feedback. Think I’m gonna do the smart but stupid expensive thing and get the OEM part. Lugbolt certainly makes a heckuva point And the feedback on these parts store pumps isn’t very good overall.
