Furniture dollies?

Do any of you use furniture dollies under implements or attachments when they're off of your tractor?

Even the little ones will support 1,000 pounds and they're all frequently on sale from Northern Tools and Harbor Freight.

One under each end of a blade, box blade, tiller, etc. would let me roll it around on the shed floor quite easily I would think.

I found that the steel car dollies work the best.

Yes, within reasonable limits. Good on concrete but, some implements need better wheels to be moved...think it out.

I am using one right now for a 3pt concrete mixer. Caution - in my book, the Harbor Freight 1000# furniture dolly capacity is greatly exaggerated. I build most of my dollys with 2x or 4x4 wood and larger casters.

All of my frequently used implements are stored inside on a smooth concrete floor. They’re all on dollies of some description. All but one are home made from 2x lumber and plywood (not OSB) using 3” or 4” steel wheeled swivel casters for durability and low rolling resistance. The oddball was made from the steel pallet my chipper shipped on. Makes it easy to store them efficiently and hook them up; even the 3 point/PTO stuff. If using off the shelf furniture dollies just need to make sure they provide adequate stability and weight capacity.

More rarely used (including can’t recall anyone using in this century) things stay in a dirt floor shed. No dollie’s out there.

If your storage area is smooth concrete or something similar which is compatible with dollies, I highly recommend them. Might require some modification if using off the shelf dollies designed for general furniture moving.

We use the steel car dollies for our trucks snow plows when they are stored off season. Easy to roll the 600 to 800 pound mold boards with mounts and pump assembly on concrete. Only need 3 dollies for each plow.

Have 2 HF small dollies (one on each end) under the box blade. Piece of plywood connect the 2 dollies, and a few strategically placed 2x4's locate the box blade and keep it from sliding off.

I have an 18x30 furniture dolly under my Tractor Supply 3 pt carry all. I also have an 18x30 furniture dolly under my pallet forks.
It allows me to move them out of the way when I'm storing them in the shop. Then when I need them, I can just roll them over to the tractor to put them on.

Furniture dolly's are cheap, they hold about 800 lbs. and they work great.

All my tractor related are on dollies. Be it pre-made or built by me. The 3" steel castors, I favor the most due to best durability vs price.

Anything heavy or awkward to move that needs floor space, IE: tablesaw, inverted router table, tires/wheels, bench grinder stand, that stuff also has castors of some array under them so I can roll it/them out of the way to maximize space with little effort.

I'd have to double size of my shop were it not for simple 2x6 platforms w/wheels,wire racks on casters,tool boxes on casters and warehouse pallet rack.

And unless your floor is basically clean enough to do surgery on, those damn little wheels get stopped every 3 inchs with a tiny pebble.

I decided to make my own dollies with 6 inch castors.

Now my problem is that they roll so easy that I have to make sure they are "chocked" or they will roll away.

"Damned if you do, and damned if you don't" I guess.

Now my problem is that they roll so easy that I have to make sure they are "chocked" or they will roll away.

Flooring installs were part of my trade for near four decades, so sweeping happens without a thought. I use fine Horse Hair brooms and foxtails...they really work well for dry use.

Often times, I get out the shopvac and vacuum the whole shop.

Absolutely.

I had 15+ HF dollies (all bought when on sale) for just about all of my implements aside from FELs and plows.

Slick as a whistle on concrete floor.

I use one under my Snowblower and one under my Snowplow in the garage, work great on both for storing them out of the way tucked in against the wall.

Wheels matter. Larger diameter wheels are more user-friendly on rough floors and uneven joints. Hard wheels are important for any heavy load or a load that will sit for a while. We had problems with them flat-spotting at work unless we used steel or hard composite wheels.

That's why I use their 6 ton jack stands for small vehicles, and I don't use their 3 ton stands AT ALL.

I only use my very old American-made jackstands. I don't want to trust my life to a 3 world country-manufactured jackstand.

It's hard to fully appreciate how well horse hair brooms work unless a body tries one for themself. Since I began buying Kirby Vacs at garage sales several years ago they took over many shop vac duties.

I have dollys for all my attachments other than the loader and backhoe which I have a dedicated location for. I had dollys for them on my b7200 so I will probably do the same.
