I have a 100 gallon tank with an electric pump. It works great. However, I have to hook it up to the tractor or excavator with alligator clips to power the pump. I am thinking of getting a car battery and a solar 12v charger to run the pump. I only use the pump once every couple of days when I am busy so I don't imagine I'd need a high amp charging setup. Thoughts? Any recommendations on charger?

The amount of time the battery will be discharging will be very short.
A "good" normal battery will last a long time and not need to be charged daily.
However - even a small battery maintainer will keep the battery fully charged between uses.
A solar charger will be fine too - most have a regulator that will not allow the battery to be overcharged.
Either way, you should be in business.

Look at Battery Minder. They sell some that are suitable for solar panels. I think they also sell the panels. Their battery maintainers work well.

Use a lawn mower battery 1/4 of the cost and it will work fine and dandy running that pump.
I use a solar charger on mine and it works great!
A totally different approach. Permanently install an Anderson Plug on your tractor or excavator's battery with a long enough cable to have the end of the plug easily available.
Install an Anderson plug on your pump. No more alligator clips. No additional battery to look after. Pull up to re fuel, plug in.....

Cut off the plug, splice it into the tanks pump wiring. Mount socket(s) on machines(s), and wire to the battery directly. The wiring under the jacket is color coded, as it should be. Takes a 1-3/4" hole to install, and 2 screws.
Other style would be an SAE connector...

With the SAE sockets, you can also put a battery minder/maintainer on your machines too.
