I have a tg1860. The fuel pump was not pumping. I took it off and located the actuator rod the pumps the pump. When turning the key the rod does not move. The fan turns. After removing the spark plug i noticed the engine has compression. It seems the the fuel pump rod would be able to pull out of the engine if i tried.
Can any one tell me how the engine works the rod and why it would pump the pump?
Thanks,
billy

Billy I think your WG590V is a Kawasaki FD590V in Kubota wrapper. If so you probably have the old plastic Cam gear stripped out and thats what drives the camshaft that reciprocates the fuel pump rod. To prove this to yourself pull the valve cover and see if the valves are moving at all when cranking the engine over. If no movement you have found your problem. Don't stress most folks say it a pretty straight forward repair without pulling the engine out of the frame. I have not seen this job done only heard about it from JD owners with JD345 using the same engine. Use these part numbers for the metal cam gear when replacing. Camshaft (steel gear) John Deere P/N AM127312 Kawasaki P/N 12044-2242. Good luck and get a WSM for proper tear down procedure. I owned a TG1860 but the gas engine is not in my WSM or I'd send you a copy. :D

I would like to see what the conclusion was on this post. I am experiencing the exact same problem right now. If it is the plastic cam drive, how difficult was it to replace? Are there any instructions for doing this? Thanks.
