When I bleed the air out of the bleeder valve should I get fuel out of it? I have bled the fuel per the service manual a couple dozen times with no change in power. The tractor runs fine for about five minutes but then it loses power and will not rev up. I had changed the fuel filter and did a full service on the tractor with 700 hrs on it. What am I missing?

Is the fuel tank vent open? To test, loosen the cap a bit and do a test run.

I’m missing what tractor are you working on.

Important point. Hard to pinpoint without knowing…..

If it’s running for a few minutes then loses power, sounds like a fuel delivery problem.

Could be plugged fuel cap causing suction in the tank, bad lift pump or trash in the tank, lines or water separator/filter that takes a few minutes to plug. Best to make sure you have good fuel flow.

Some series/models have their own problems related to fuel flow.

Best to start with whether you’re working on a BX, B, or L series that you have in your profile….or maybe a different one.

Since you mentioned bleeder, I’m guessing the L3940, but that’s a guess too.

Yes, the L3940, fuel flows free from tank to filter, new filter and bowl was cleaned also. My question is should I get fuel out of the bleeder when bleeding?

to answer your question,

YES - a SOLID stream - no bubbles!

Open throttle wide

Is the bleeder serviceable?

You can take it out .....but all you need to do it open it and hit the key - might need a few rounds of this to get the air out. 5-7 second bursts, little starter rest between

Is this one of the models that has trouble with the inlet elbow at the first filter housing?

I can’t remember but will do a bit of searching and see what I find.

I did a quick search and didn’t see mention of the problem on that model. The problem was some type of junk (algae or grass) clogging the inlet side of a filter housing

When you have the fuel filter bled, you will have no bubbles coming out of the bleeder screw.
You can still clog the head of the filter assembly so check for fuel on the discharge side of the filter. If that checks out, go to the next component. Do you have a lift pump? Do you have flow on the other side of lift pump? Some of these have a filter in them that can clog.
