Fuel Gauge sending unit

All the time? mmmmmm......

now mine (2370) will read full a good long time, but if I get a low and move on a hillside I can get it to move off the full mark....

those sending units have a bad way of "breaking down" inside the tank and causing clogging problems....

If you get on an incline .....no change at all?

YOU might have an electrical problem too - many sending units will read FULL when grounded out thus bypassing the variable resistor (POT) that changes the reading.

I've read elsewhere that the float corrodes and ceases to work in some of these Bx tractors. Mine sort of works, but the reading on the panel isn't reliable. I manage this by just filling the tank after I use it.

Assuming corroded float assembly is your problem it can be fixed, but I personally don't think the teardown is worth it.

Several threads about sending units rusting out & causing all sorts of problems.
Only way to get to it is removing ROPS, knobs, then lift fender to reach sending unit. Been thru two units on two different BX's so far, keep a spare on the shelf.

I guess we have a difference of opinion on nomenclature. In engineer-speak, I'd consider the float the level element. The variable resistor would be the level transmitter (i.e. sending unit). What you see on the panel would be the level indication. On instrument diagrams, these are identified LE, LT, and LI, respectively.

Now, it is common to to have instrument with element and transmitter together, and that's perhaps the source of confusion.
