Thanks for the answer.

What would happen if one used more than 10%? And, would one have to make modifications to be able to run on canola oil alone? Is it possible?
it would work during summer but will be a bit harder to start.

you can find info all around the internet.

in my Jetta, I used the coolant to preheat the fuel filter/veggie oil tank so I could use 100% oil/shortening mix all seasons.

you should just stop spreading theories or suppositions and try something. :D

UMM it says it right here boss on whats added to the veggie oil to make it work

Mixture:
Waste vegetable oil (WVO) -- used cooking oil, fryer grease, animal fats, lard
Methanol (CH3OH) -- 99%+ pure
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH -- caustic soda, lye) -- must be dry

Titration:
Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) -- 99%+ pure
Distilled water
Phenolphthalein solution (not more than a year old, kept protected from strong light) -- "Phenol" or "Phenol Red" from swimming pool or hot tub supply stores may not be the same as phenolphthalein; it can be used but the directions for use may be different

and only the vegetable oil is left after the chemical reaction;

the lye will go in the glycerine, Methanol will be part in the raw biodiesel and in the glycerine. That's why we reheat the the biodiesel to get the methanol out of it. (because the alcohol is bad for the pump seals.)

try it with a small batch of vegetable oil and you will understand.

it can be done with a simple pop bottle (the 2L size is just perfect)

Typically, my diesel can is 20L. I fill it to 18, then add 2L of oil? Or do I dump the fuel into the tank first and then add the oil? In other words, is there any pre-mixing?

you are in Ontario... please wait till next summer to do it but yes you can premix in the fuel can.
