An old departed friend had a caterpillr d6 break off the drawbar. 1-1/4" bolts broken off flush. Drilled a 3/4"hole down through bolt and a reciprocating saw to split bolt and collapse. The cat bolts are hard,but not as hard as the plate they were threaded into.
It takes a little nerve to burn a steel bolt out of aluminum, and a steady hand.

That's why I came here first to ask. To see if somebody would talk me out of it or point out something I wasn't seeing. I was a tad nervous, but other than a good bit of spatter (and I was covered up very well) it was easy peasy. Just steady hand and centered and sploosh
