Replaced clutch and reassembled L2900. The front wheel drive spline shaft is off center and leaking hydraulic fluid. See pic. I can turn the shaft manually and when the engine is running. Only leaks when motor is running.
Do I have to separate the tractor and open the trans to fix the alignment and replace oil seal?

I would say something is really out of place, and yes the only way I know to fix it is to open it up. ;)

I split the l2900dt and separated clutch housing from bell housing. I rotated the propeller and immediately saw that it was bent significantly. That explains the offset and Mis-alignment. So I have to replace the front wheel drive propeller shaft in the transmission
Has anyone ever removed the shaft? Would appreciate some guidance

I dont' recall doing a 2900 but I did a 4200 recently. The shaft comes out the front but there's a collar in the back that will fall off inside the case. Not really a big deal, but you have to fiddle with it. Fish it out where you can get to it, use another tool (I used a wooden dowel) to push it back onto the shaft inside the case, and then proceed to replace the propeller shaft, seals, both sleeves, bearing, and retaining ring. Don't try to reuse the sleeves. They are likely loose already. The new ones will be nice and tight on the shaft. Measure your old sleeve, then drive the new one on but stop about 1/4" or so from going fully on. Then when you drive the bearing into the bore over the propeller shaft, the sleeve is pushed back exactly where it needs to be.

You'll understand it better once you have the new parts in your hands and ready to install.

Thank you a bunch for the lesson. When I took out the shaft one sleeve stayed on the shaft and the other one came off as you explained. The bearing did not come out and I was planning on reusing yet. I will order the parts tomorrow. It’s not clear how to position the sleeves on the shaft when I put the new shaft in
