I have a 1985 L355SS and while cleaning the tractor I just noticed there is a what appears to be a PTO shaft on the pulley just below the pulley that turns the radiator fan.
it is narrower than the rear one and appears to have about 20 or so splines. Is that a front PTO shaft and if so what is it used for. Couldn't find any info in owners manual or shop manual. I'm new to Kubota and I am still discovering things.

That shaft is attached to the front of the crankshaft and was used for various purposes like an electric clutch to power a belly mower, or a hyd. pump for a loader, etc.

There is/was a female splined shaft that fit on what you see and extended out to the front of the tractor. That is where the electric clutch or hyd. pump was mounted.

When those shafts wore out they became a problem as they are not available from Kubota now. You have to get creative to get the power to your accessory.

There are some threads on the forum about such projects.

I was just wondering what it was for. Not going to hook anything to it. As you say parts are a little difficult for this model as is.
