Brand new to this site, I have an older 3650 GST 4x4 40 hp
The 2 front oil seals are leaking. I have heard this is common. I am fairly handy with mechanics. I do have the manual although its not real clear. I dont want to pull the front seals and get in over my head. how difficult are these to fix?

What 2 seals are you referring to? Engine, Trans, Front axel?
You do have the service manual? or just the operators manual?

Sorry, they are the 2 front axle seals where the 2 wheels pivot on the axle it looks like the top one, one on each side.:)

My 3450 has the same front axle, it's a fairly easy rebuild, the seal is 38440-43530 $21.73 also get the O-ring seal too it's 31353-44130 $4.68.
If it were mine while in there, I would change the 2 bearings also, they are cheap, inside bearing is 08101-06207 $9.27 Outside bearing is 08101-06208 $15.45.

I get most all of my parts here:

I believe he is talking about where the hub pivots, not the wheel bearing seal? Could be wrong though. If so, this also an easy fix.

I believe your correct looking in the manual I think they are the hub pivot seals they are leaking at the top.

To do the Pivot hub you will still need to remove the axle hub, so do all the seals while your in there.;)

I've done several dozen of these seals and the most important tool you can have is a good set of snap ring pliers. Napa sells some ratcheting ones for $75(!) that work mint on the larger snap rings. If you want to save the money, a LARGE set of fixed ones from craftsman will work too. Don't get the ones with the replaceable tips, they will break/bend/move and make the job harder than it should be.

A seal driver and seal remover tool from Harbor freight will make your job easier but isn't essential. You can use a large screwdriver to remove and large block of wood to install worst case.

I have it down to about 1-2hrs per side when working outside on a customers premises.

I just dont want to start it with snow coming as I use it a lot for snow removal. the way we are going right now I will need an ark not a plow LOL I plan on getting all my parts here then giving it a go. Thanks for the input.:)
