The “hours” are not useful I don’t believe because I don’t know HOW LONG it was operated in 4WD before it wore thru the tube. I bought the tractor wilh less than 400 hours on it... but did that wear occur in the LAST few hours or the FIRST hours or for ALL the hours?

As for mounting a skid-plate, perhaps the threaded holes the tube itself is bolted might provide support.

The propeller shaft inside of the tube shield turns whether the tractor is in 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive.

Not sure, I bought it used and somehow missed it. I think they may have hit a rock, bent the tube and it has worn through. I dont think the shaft is bent though.

Thanks for your reply! I may do that until I can do the permanent fix. It has about 250 hours on it. Not sure how it happend, but I think it was bent and the shaft wore through. It has also been a rust point.

well I climbed under mine just to feel the full run of the tube and look at it yesterday. I'm at 52 hours and 1 year old. The tube on mine still looks like it just came off the factory floor. Not a ding on it. Hopefully it stays that way. Will keep an eye on it as I rack up the hours.

Pretty obvious it was bashed into something. Your jiggle valve in the bell housing drain is also bent. Make sure you pull those sticks out of your linkage also.

It drains condensation from the bell housing. The little pin “bounces” or “jiggles” to keep the drain hole open from dust/dirt/rust/etc. (Old Ford tractors used a cotter-pin in a drain-hole.) :p
