I have a 1998 B2400 HST with 521 hours on it. Now that I've purchased a ZD28F to mow with, this B2400 is used much less frequently, like 10 hours per year for snow removal, moving mulch, yanking out tree stumps and the like.

My question is, I've been a believer of changing oil annually, but with now such low use, is this a waste of money?

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks for your time.

Even with just a few hrs it needs to be changed at least once per year. Even though the hrs are low it has deposits of moisture, acids, carbon and the list goes on and on. I know it's hard to dump oil that new but it will be the best for your tractor in the long run.

It can be argued that low/infrequent use requires more oil frequent oil changes than normal use. Because the moisture and contaminants that would be boiled off with a high temperature run time may remain in the oil. I certainly wouldn't change it less than ever year.

If it cost $40 to change the oil once a year, its a $40 insurance policy that says your engine will still running 20 years from now..
