My understanding is that vehicles used for farming are exempt from road use taxes. Some states even have special license plates to identify farm trucks.
I don't know about other states, but in Virginia, the state does not issue "Farm Use" license plates. You can buy them at any farm store and many hardware stores. They are completely unofficial. It's really a big scam. There are plenty of people who just don't register their regular vehicles (typically pickups, but often SUVs) and just put the farm plates on them. There's really no enforcement, because the law is worded so poorly that it would be just a about impossible to prove abuse.

Also, if you are using on-road (taxed) diesel in a farm truck you can deduct the taxed portion of the fuel you use on your federal income taxes. Some states also allow this exemption for state income taxes.
Yes, it's perfectly legal, IF you do the paperwork, which is probably a lot more hassle than it's worth.

Well good grief @John T, @jyoutz stated it did dye the fuel system a few posts ago.
Maybe he meant colouring visible. In Europe all Diesel road vehicles have to have a clear delivery line in the engine bay so that customs can check for agricultural (green) or heating (red) Diesel.

I will get agricultural Diesel for my tractor and generator now. Price difference is 0.78¢ a liter, so about 2.73€ per gallon. That adds up over the year even if I don't use a lot.

Farm trucks still have to use On Road or Fuel that is Not dyed just like any other truck. Yes, many states have a Farm plate and/or AG plate for agricultural use vehicles.

On a side note....
I've been driving trucks for over 40 years and only had my Fuel checked ONCE.

NY I-84 south weight station. mid 1980's

They stuck a clear straw in the tank... put their thumb on the top and pulled it out.

"Yer good to go Pal" (y)

Today, they would probably have to wear a tyvac suit/rubber gloves and spill protection mats :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I asked my nephew the other day if he uses the Power Service diesel additive in his GMC in cold weather. I run it in my kubota year round. He said someone told him the diesel now is winter blend. But he does use it in real cold weather. He had stopped to put air in his tire. A odd GMC thing is if your tire is low. The LED light around his headlight flashes. I stood there..like every 30 seconds it blinks three times on the corner of the truck the tire is low. Just to many electronics.
I was plowing yesterday morning (11" of snow here by the way) and was plowing my sister's driveway. He had one car parked outside. As soon as I got by the car Ford puts on the emergency brake. WT hell. Yes it wants me safe. I plow some, im backed out by the main road, a car passes, on goes the emergency brake. A pain in the ass to say the least. I know where I am, I now how to drive. I love my 12th F150, but to many stupid proof things.

Many of the diesel additives available don't just help to reduce gelling, they also provide other benefits such as increasing cetane and lubricity. Like you I run additives all year round, even with winter blend fuel.

I've been adding Stanadyne to diesel tanks for decades and recently started adding Opt-Lube XPD. I have no idea if one is better than the other, and no way to compare them. Every diesel equipped piece of equipment I have starts and runs well and that's really all I can say about that.

33+ years of truck driving, never had my fuel checked during any level of inspection ...

The red off road fuel will color a white fuel filter in the clear bowl a light pink color ...

Missouri has "farm tags" but limits those to 50 miles of domicile ... Not worth it to me.
