I have a B6100HST-D that had a leak from the oil seal behind brake drum. I’ve done the breakdown, cleaned everything up, removed the seal and now have parts. I have several questions.

Do I need to lube or put sealant on the seal behind the drum prior to placement, or does it need to go in dry?

Do I need to put any sealant on the gasket for the axle case? If yes, what type?

I will need a fluid refill, is there an alternative I can use or do I need to stick with Kubota fluids?

Essentially the same question for the gasket behind the brake assembly cover? I didn’t think that one would need sealant, but I could not tell if it had it upon assembly.

And in general, how am I going to screw this up? I have replaced seals and gaskets before but I'm always looking for advice and information. I will continue reading on the site, I was just looking for what NOT to do. thanks y’all

Haven’t received any responses so I will post some “carnage” pix for the next person with this issue. Maybe it will help the next person understand what they’re getting into. If anyone has any questions or if anyone needs specific pix while I've got this open I'll be happy to send what I can.

Still hoping to find out whether I need to put sealant on the gasket and if yes, what kind.

Should the seal go in dry or do I need to get some RTV or some other sealant in there first?

Fluid refill, do I need to stick with Kubota fluids or is there a cheaper alternative?

Thanks for any help …

The best answer is in that machine's Workshop Manual (WSM). You might check kubotabooks.com for an electronic copy.

Seals usually get grease - WSM has where it is needed and direction of seal.

Cases typically get a Three-Bond sealant - WSM will call for particular type, especially around rear axle. Look up the Three Bond and if not available, cross reference to Permatex or Loctite.

Fluids as long as they meet the book value. HST's most owners stick with Kubota when it comes to SUDT.
