I just won an auction for a B2410 4WD HST with a soft cab and the belly mower. This will be my first tractor and it was purchased for a small farmett. It will primarily be used for mowing duty, light gardening, and some snow removal. (We live in NC so the snow removal will be on the order of once or twice a year) The unit has 2000 hours on it - I'd have preferred much less, but it was what I could find & afford. I will pick up on Friday evening. Auction price $5600.

Is this price reasonable? I will honor it regardless (assuming tractor is as described) but it would be nice to know if I got it for a decent price or not. I was unaware of this forum until AFTER I bid and won the tractor, or I would have asked this question before :)

Would someone mind sharing anything special I should be looking for when I pick up? I won't be paying until after I verify that the unit is as advertised in the auction description. There were no issues disclosed in the description requiring service or repair and the seller is an experienced equipment reseller - so I should find a tractor with cosmetic wear only - at least I hope that is the case... I'm driving 6.5 hours to pick it up.

The back story (I've been told) is that the tractor belonged to a landscaping contractor who traded it in on a bigger piece of equipment. With the soft cab and the original sales dealer sticker indicating PA when the unit first sold, I'm thinking the tractor was primarily run for snow removal - but I have no way of knowing.

My number one requirement is that this tractor HAS to make it though this mowing season before any major repairs/service. We've got about 5 acres to mow and it cost over $4000 last season to pay someone to mow it. We did not have the funds to buy something that we could mow with due to our moving expenses and the fact that we don't have/use credit. This is an income tax refund purchase we've been waiting on for over a year - so if it goes sideways I'm really up the creek.

Update - video of tractor is here:

Thanks for any help!

Does the machine have a loader? If it does, you got an awesome deal! If not, it still sounds like a decent price though the hours are up there. I'm not afraid of a Kubota with 2000 hours but many people are.
Is this the machine? http://www.ebay.com/itm/KUBOTA-B241...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

If so, looks like the loader was removed at some point because the hydraulic valve is still there.

As far as reliability, the B2410 is a good machine, pretty solid, no DPF or other computer things to worry about.

With unknown maintenance history, I would STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend going thru the whole machine first.

For about $100 in filters and another $80 in fluids you can change all your HST fluid to synthetic Kubota SUDT2, change your oil, change your fuel, air and oil filters as well as hydro filter(s).

Once you have changed your Hydro/UDT fluid (its the same fluid, one or two plugs to pull), drain your front axle lube and change that with fresh UDT.

Grease the whole machine, all zerks, including on your mower deck. Change the blades and belts if needed.

Once you've spend this extra ~$200 on your "new" machine, you should be good for the season and are much less likely to have issues than if you didn't perform the service (and possibly detect issues like bad seals, bearing failure, etc)

Billdog,

That is the machine. It does not have a loader. Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to hear I'm not over paying. Hopefully it was taken care of.

I've been seriously looking for a Kubota now for over a month now (need to pull trigger - grass needs mowed!) and it is the newest (in my price range) by a lot. Although a lot of the other tractors I've seen for sale, while much older, have many fewer hours.

If you paid 4K last year to get your mowing done, you'll be way ahead of the game with this machine.

Check all the dipsticks, oil, transmission. Make sure there's no green color in the oil. Ask the seller if he has any service records. He'll probably say "no". Ask him for the name and phone number of the guy who traded it. Try to get to someone who know how it was maintained.

Do all the changes Billdog350 mentioned, and you'll be set.

Two acres mowed once per week at 2 hr per mowing for 26 week season is 52 hrs per year. So if you use the tractor twice that much, and your engine only last another 1000 hours, you can mow for 10 years!

Relax, have fun.
